I propose the spent gold is removed since it's the tavern owners (developers) who own and maintain the tavern community boards.
You could post your message and it will remain posted for 7 days or until you take it down early. If you want to keep the message up there longer then you will need to post it again in 7 days. There needs to be a way to pay some more gold on a message after it's posted so that you can choose to increase the messages posting position if someone else posts with a higher gold payment. Sort of like a bidding war for the most visible message position.
