Yeah, no way can the richest, most powerful country in the world pay for stuff like that, its the kind of insanity that is best left to other, poorer nations who seem able to manage it just fine, the fools!

The USSR could support free college, free housing, and free everything while in utter poverty for decades.

Quick question: If every country was to recall their debts from the USA would Uncle Sam be bankrupt?

After reading here, I'm very glad i'm for a country with 5 mil inhabitants that nobody takes serious.

At least the country got about 1,5 to 2 trillion $ stashed away for future use. Think my pension is salvaged.

Approx $6.3T of this debt is held by foreign sovereign entities or about 40% of total outstanding principal and accrued interest. The mineral rights and oil and gas sitting under federal lands that has not been exploited yet, far exceeds that number. There are plenty of US held assets to cover foreign held US Treasuries.

In addition, US corporation have parked trillions in untaxed profits overseas. When they bring those foreign profits back on shore the tax revenues from those profits will be substantial.

It is a big number, but it is not doom and gloom, yet. Just need to stop spending more than tax revenues can cover, simple as that.
