Cause of death is a movable piece of data. In the end, we all die of heart failure no matter the cause of it can sometimes not be directly related to the 'headline' condition on our med charts.
They did tests on archived tissue samples and found HIV cases dating back to the 50's. Of course, back then there were no tests for it so those deaths were ascribed to other causes, like cancers or pnuemonia.
Underlying or pre-existing conditions muddy the water : did they kill you cos the covid made you weaker or did the covid kill you cos the pre-existing condition made you weaker?
No doubt a whole lot of 'causes' will be listed that are not 100% accurate. When one cause pays a bonus that another doesnt will invite a bit of creative accountancy, much like a lot else in life. 'Whiplash' anybody?
Should not detract from the basic fact that whilst covid may plateau or fall back over the next weeks, it will remain a severe threat for a long while yet until a vaccine or the slower acquisition of herd immunity bears down on it.
