Ah, perhaps I misunderstood : the bit about 'retribution is already certain' implied the matter was already decided : perhaps a re-phrase to 'retribution is certain when we get paid to retribute' will cause fewer comprehension issues.

It could have ended in several ways. As a Merc I chose the one most profitable or at lest the one with the most cost-effective outcomes.
