Don't forget that poor training can be fixed. Especially with help an aid from professional soldiers. Look at the american revolution or the war between Mexcio and Texas, the underdogs won, partially because the other side had professional soldiers, while the others were poorly trained and equipped. Sure at first, they were winning easy, until proper training and experience kicked in, they got over confident, and lost.
