Reality of Sending a Letter

Hello PG Community,

So I want to discuss how unrealistic it looks when you send and receive a letter.

Where is the parchment? Shouldn’t letters be received in an office or designated mailbox?

When you read the letters, it looks like a chat room rather than a discussion within parchment.

I’m not trying to make a big deal out of it whatsoever, but if we be moving on to new UI, then I say we should update our letter system with graphics to look like you are typing on parchment, your quartermaster telling you, that you have received some mail, rather than a notification on the bottom chat bar.

I want more realism and RP within the game to add some attraction to it ! RPG is only done with the system enhances the RP within itself.

Perhaps an animation for opening a letter from a player could be added?

Perhaps the inbox is moved to the captains log or to the up and coming office.

Perhaps an archive letter option to save specific messages from players? You can save your own sent messages, why not the other side’s messages within your quarters? Surely one can pin a piece of parchment on the wall...

Just a discussion I wanted to bring up. I think it’d be pretty cool to get the office and inbox revamped for enhanced RP.

Just my two cents.

Anyone else wish to comment? Leave your opinion below ;)

Additionally, not to double post or advertise a game.

Skyrim has a letter system from NPC’s that is similar to how I think it could be set up here in this game.

You have a courier sent to you to deliver letters

It even reads who sent it (if they want to reveal themselves) and even makes some comments regarding who sent it (if a jarl send the letter, the courier will comment on you moving up in the world. If a shady figure send the letter, the courier will mention that he didn’t get a good look at the sender.)

Just an example to go off of. Even if you look up the animation for opening a letter for Skyrim, I think something similar would be pretty cool to see here. It even has it where you can view the pages of the letter, instead of all of it on one sheet of parchment.

I like your ideas. Parchment-style messages would look really really cool. I also think that you should start to be able to send messages anonymously.

Just remember that the more "realistic" the messaging system gets, the harder it is to use. For instance realistically it could take days to send a letter to another person. However that would make sending messages arbitrary and pointless.

I’m just talking about a UI change, not a mechanical change :)

Yeah you got me there but I’m not complaining entirely about it being a priority or anything just thought it needed a topic of it’s own :D :D
