What is Avonmora? What shape does it have?

This is a left-behind question and never explained.

Is Avonmora a far part of the Earth, Caribbean-like, where for some reason our ships are confined?
But, if so, why can't we travel to Old Europe or to the Americas?

Or is Avonmora a somewhere-else place, like a different planet (for example like Narnia, or the Middle Earth, or Westeros)?
Why can't we explore what happens traveling to Chalkos sailing west from Kanoni then?

I was adding a post to the night/day thread and I was wondering why should we expect earthlike stuff in a fantasy world, like a 24h day/night cycle.

One hint that Avonmora is not flat is that is not Euclidean. Traveling from A to B could be shorter if not in straight lines. So I tend to think it could be a little planet on its own.

A good question. How I view it and think of it through my RP's, is that Avonmora is a sort of alternate world Caribbean. This is why one can not travel around the world from Chalkos to Kanoni by going west-because there's a lot more distance that way. It also explains all the earth related nations involved in the game, even if a few contradict each other.

As for why we can't travel to the old world, I would say it's not because we can't, rather we have no reason to. Pirates wouldn't due to the old world having proper navies that would decimate them, and traders won't due to it being more simple and lucrative to trade in Avonmora rather then waste months going back and forth the new and old world.

Course this is all just my views on it, maybe someday the community will decide on what to officially make of Avonmora, or perhaps it will always remain undefined, so that everyone can think of it as whatever they wish. Another planet, alternate earth, fever dream of some bum drinking too much rum etc.

Obviously.. our world is flat and if we go to the edges of the map we fall off...

Our is flat but Avonmora? Earth is flat shaped with all the mountains around Antarctica to prevent water falling down the shoulders of the big turtle that... oh, wait! That's Terry Pratchett's Discworld.

:D

We all figure Avonmora out in a personal way. Yes, for sure the map is based on the Caribbean Sea the same way Westeros is Britain-shaped. But Westeros has its own lore, so Avonmora could as well, developing a civilization so much similar to XV and XVI centuries of Earth.

This, anyway, doesn't say anything about other stuff like why we can't sail off the map. Sure one pirate would unlikely go to Europe but if I were a merchant I would instead be willing to buy goods at San Juan and deliver them to Lisbon or London, I guess. So the traveling-off-the-map makes sense.
(in the direction of a future game expansion, perhaps? Making the map bigger... maybe adding ports?)

More ports makes finding these sea monsters even harder :D

Aye, I know not where ye be from, but at one time I sailed the New World waters - the last I remember be sailin' into a storm as I ventured through the Bermuda Triangle.

Next thing I know I be here with nothin' but a sloop and a few coin in me pockets. As the rum trade be active here, I believe I will stick around...Avonmora be good to me!

I like this. Avonmora be on the other side of the Bermuda Triangle with no chance of going back. ^^

Definitely an interesting take. Would explain the insane populations and why the king/queen resides in Avonmora, even though they represent a nation outside of it.
