In my opinion, one problem with the current server is that most active players already have achieved most goals. There is not much left to do. Everyone has plenty of gold, lots of ships, are loaded with voodoo, has all important buildings and tech, and have basically tried everything the game has to offer. We have reached the end of the game.

Another problem is that new players quickly discover that the players already playing are so many years ahead of them that it becomes less fun to play in the same game as them.

Finally, there are no "victory conditions". The game goes on forever, but there is no "winning". There is nothing major to "achieve".

In a "new server", we would get to start over. Give the new server a set time before it ends, for example three years. Make clear victory conditions (NOT fame in its current, broken condition), and give some sort of award to the top three players and top three guilds according to these conditions. I, at least, would find it fun to start over in a new world, where everyone started out equal. And then fight to become among the top players in that world when it reaches its end.

Well haron, my issue with a second server is that it wouldn't really solve many of those problems you just listed. For one, assuming the game mechanics stayed either the same or similar to the ones here, older players would still have an enormous advantage. But if the game mechanics were totally reset and veterans had to relearn how to play, I expect we'd lose a lot of those players as they don't have time or attention to learn a completely new PG. It took long enough to learn the first one. That being said, it would be more fair to new players. But how many new players would we even get? We already have a problem retaining new players here, why wouldn't that problem carry over to the next server? The learning curve is only a small part of the reason most don't stay, and my evidence is that only a few years ago we got a lot more new players that today. I believe that nowadays there's simply just something oh so unsexy about a browser based game. Why would a new generation want that when they have 4k 120fps on a 55 inch plasma screen? I firmly believe the reason the game did so well during the pandemic was because everyone was working their jobs and going to school remotely, so it was very convenient to just switch tabs and have a game at their disposal.

That may sound all doom and gloom for pirates glory, but it doesn't have to be. My advice for CJ if he really cares about the future of the game, is to find a way to make a desktop app for the game while still keeping it accessible by browser. It would be a tough transition for sure, but it would remove many of the aspects that are likely unappealing to new players (ie buttons leading to page refreshes, etc). Otherwise, the game could stay as it is, and the current players could enjoy it while it lasts until it dies out enough to warrant shutting down the server.

Yeah Leo games like this are just not appealing to most Gen Z and Alphas. especially now that COD Black Ops 6 exists lol. I think though this game should exist as an app not only for Desktop but Android and iPhone. if possible. maybe $4.99 to download the game. CJ can really make that bag.

As a member of gen z, some of the most successful games that appeal to my generation are free with in-game transactions (like PG already is). Not sure if I would have given the game a chance if it was $5 and only text.

Then you are talking about a new game, Lola.

Perhaps it is correct that a new server would not attract new players. I do not know how new players find their way to this game these days, but some seem to do so, although few stay. I could be wrong, but I do believe a more level playing field would make at least a few of those want to stay. While experienced players obviously still have an advantage, due to their experience, at least they would not have the vast resources compared to a new player. It's one thing to play chess against another player and lose because that player is simply better than you. It's another thing to play chess against another player and start the game without rooks or a queen. That just doesn't feel fair.

Anyway, perhaps a new server would not attract that many new players. But I know I would find it interesting to start the game anew, in a new world, where there are no players with lots of resources. To me, this game was far more fun "in the good old days". A lot of the game mechanics are way better suited for a new game, than for our current situation, where everyone has everything.

I guess my opinion is that the current game is basically over. We've played, we had fun, but now it's over. However, I wouldn't mind playing it again. A new server would mean that: We get to play the game one more time. Perhaps I'm wrong, and too few would play for it to be enjoyable. But is the current server really providing an interesting game challenge these days?
