The artist of Issue #25 is usually associated with American country & folk music, and that's true for sure but in a second phase of his career he started recording covers of other musicians.
So the song belongs to the Depeche Mode. The Brit band wrote it for the album Violator in 1990. They were famous already, this album was their 7th one and it is known as one of their best one with its black cover and this scarlet rose. One of the tracks was chosen by Johnny Cash for his 2002 album. It was an elecronic song, he sung it as a gospel.
