I'm not quite sure why the proposal includes a toggle. I guess to allow players the option for the game to continue to work as it does like for instance if assigning a fleet to a preset route but just allowing it to pick it up from the closest port. Although thinking about that, I'm unsure if a toggle would work, maybe just a prompt when the route is first assigned.

Ok I see. Maybe it would be better for fleets to just follow the route in the exact order that was given. I wouldn't know though, I'm not a trader lol. Vote to discussion.

The main purpose of the suggestion - I would like my fleets to follow the route as assigned - forced route order.
I suggested the Toggle option, because many people may just want to keep it as it currently is.
This would allow for both options. It could be route specific and controlled by a checkbox next to danger halt.

Advantages to forced route are as follows. When you deviate from your normal route by sending a ship to an alternate port, for hideout or plantation supply, after the cargo drop the fleet will resume in the order you want it to. This also applies in a similar fashion to a fleet that is being moved from another route to a new route or a fleet that has just been built in a port that is not on the route.

I am not sure I get this right. Let's have an example:

We have a trade route as following:

Tortuga
Tzogos
Aiora
Seaglory

Fleet is currently travelling to Tzogos. The default option is toggle ON. So the next port will be Aiora.
When the toggle is turned off then the route instead of going to Aiora, it will go to Tortuga as this is the closest port. Right?

Doesn't this also means that the route will then be in between Tortuga and Tzogos?

That is not the intent.

The intent is as follows.

Fleet is in Aiora when route is created.

Off .... not forced

I set a route to trade at new land then seaglory.
As it currently works it will visit seaglory first because its closest.

Forced route on would make certain the fleet goes to new land from aiora then on to seaglory.

To clarify further

I am intending for this to only affect the start of a new route.
Not suggesting that this change the normal cycle once the route is running. It should not change the normal order in on or off. It should only dictate how a route initializes.

post edit - adding resuming route after deviation

I also see another possible setting.

when you deviate from a route by sending your fleet to a port off the route.

when the route is resumed, I see three possible initialization options

a - go to closest port on route - setting off
b - go to first port on route - forced setting on - restart from top of route list
c - go to port in route list proceeding last visited port on list - forced setting on resume from departure

route is Tortuga - New land - Seaglory

If pause the route in new land an travel to Baramas.

when I resume the route

a - fleet will make its next stop in new land
b - fleet will make its next stop in Tortuga
c - fleet will make its next stop in seaglory
