In my opinion Events is the way to go. I like the Permanence, you cannot accidentally click it away,
and also as stated because of the mobile issues for chat bar.
I am not overly opposed to this for cards, I just don't find it as useful as with ships.
Because of how the card market operates and card market volume it would change strategy there a bit more than it will
the ship market.

What if you had a auction log page
an event in the auction log will make an icon/link pop up - Similar to how events log pops up.
we would have a manual permanent link to auction log somewhere as well.
Auction log page could have an
auction events page - shows things like ending soon, out bids, watched items that are now moving.
sorted by ending soonest
active bids - ending times and ending notification settings ( how far ahead of ending you wish to be notified )
sorted by ending soonest
watching page - items you are interested in but have not bid on
recently ended auctions - items you won and were outbid on
sorted by most recently ended
filter function for pages - all auctions / voodoo / ships
