Discussion for ship cost increase (resources)

Greetings everyone,

We now need to forward more tweaks that we have in mind for quite some time now. First of them is the increase in ship building.

Point A)
We increased the ship price in gold a while ago. But the initial ship prices where selected alongside with the cost in resources. For example, fluyts used to be very cheap in terms of building costs. Now however, the gold price is so large in comparison to the resources cost that it is not in par with the resources cost. This needs to be addressed.

Point B)
Resources need warehouses to be stored. However warehouse space is expensive and currently used in vast as a "warchest".
This will be taken in mind so this change will be implemented AFTER we give a better option of a warchest than warehouses (more options currently exist of course but we will add more). This probably means it will be added right after the GOLD resource feature (which is the next MAJOR feature in priority).

Point C)
Ship building in terms of resources is only challenging for new players. Once a player gets a handful of fleets, it dedicates one fleet to stock his ship building port. This seems to be enough with current standards and this is not enough challenging.

I am mentioning this point to help you help us in determining the increase in resources needed. The increase will be one value added to all ships; we will not change the resources as they have been picked in each ship separately as the values chosen were based on a big scale research when we first determined them. We will accept however suggestions separately from the general increase.

I will not mention which is the leading increase value that we have thought. I will await your feedback.

Well as a Pirate few materials needed for ship building is a blessing. But I admit the prices are rather low.

If I had to suggest an amount I would say double the costs?

What I think could be an interesting twist would have to do with leveling up the ships. Currently all you need is money to increase the level of your ship and you can do it any where, and at any time. What I propose is that you need the materials and the money to level up a ship. This would also mean that you would have to do it in the port where you have your warehouse. Also, you should be charged turns equaling the number of turns needed to buy the ship to raise it to the next level. 8 turns for a Hawker and 145 for a ship of the line. I do not have a Man of War yet so I can not comment on these. Any way for us players who do not have Sotl fleets all at level 10 already, this could make things more realistic.

I like that idea!

Once built you could need increasing amounts of iron, tools, and gold resource to level your ship. This would only be a good idea once I can bury treasure though and Pirates also do not have trade routes and would need a way to get the materials, but you could steal the cargo of a ship you could get those materials by raiding certain trade routes

Also a use for Food, Rum, and Tobbaco would be nice

The effort needed to make upgrades dependable on resources is big enough to reject this, for the time being. Perhaps at a later stage.
The rest 3 resources will certainly be used but as it seems, mainly by nations with nation control feature. We are open for ideas.
