Now that nation governors are assigned rather than promoted to the position, should nations hold elections to appoint their governors ?
If so, what changes to nations could there be made to facilitate a voting process ?

How do you envision this tying into the current Rank Up system?

It's a Kings rule, so I think the king has the overall say in his nation. -1 for me, I need more details.

TBH, I don't see it tying into the now defunct 'highest influence gets the gov's chair' old system. As you are aware, that system had to be dropped when plantations were implemented to avoid a whole host of permission problems. Perhaps not dropped per say but made unpractical to hold plantations in a port owning nation.

Now the Gov's chair is filled by decree by anyone the king sees fit whether they be a Major or a Duke just so long as they fly the flag. Some Kings will like that ability and some Kings will find it a thankless task with potential of alienating their base and might prefer if the choice was made via citizen vote rather than royal decree.

That sounds like it is working as it should.

If a King wanted to implement a vote for these positions he could do it through PM or a nation thread, the truth is that is not the wish of the King
