Hostile natives when Nations declare War

Postby The Preacher » Sat Sep 08, 2018 8:28 am

When a nation controls a port, and declares war on certain nations, the visiting fleets bearing the flag of enemy nations suffer one extra danger point when reaching the port. :cannon

Realistic, not as hard as inflicting 2 or 3 danger, and the penalized fleets have a chance of not appearing on plunder board. :PP

Makes sense. And this would give more importance for a Nation to declare a war.

If that were the case no pirate could enter a port, all nations are at war with them by nature.

This would make a war declaration useless.

The work around is simply do not declare war.

I don't see how this would make a war declaration useless, if anything it would make them more useful since it would make it to where enemy nations would either need to avoid your ports, or deal with the bonus danger.

And this would be doubly effective if your nation holds a monopoly on one of the resources. Then your enemy is forced to use one of your ports, and gain the bonus danger.

Hypothetical.

IoM sitting around and bored one day. Instead of casting HN's or FFJ on someone they simply declare war on every nation. Anyone who has a fleet sailing to an IoM port would see their fleet accumulate danger. Imagine the free for all on the plunder boards. Your only defense is to not travel to an IoM port. This also makes your plantation useless because eventually you run out of supplies and your workers die off.

Wait..... I am all in favor for this..... I will start loading the war declaration for every nation in Avonmora now. Everyones plantations in UK posts will be useless in a month and I will be able to pick up all the acreage for next to nothing.

Plus as a privateer it would be nice to see the plunders boards start filling up with targets......

Hmmmmm how long will it take me to declare war on every nation...... no turns needed ...... no gold or cards required .......

Let's do it......

Sure IoM could do that. But do you think every other nation is just going to decide "oh well that's fine."

Your own fleets would be subject to danger gain on every port that isn't IoM owned. The other nations would also probably either Take your ports which would wouldn't be too hard if you literally went and made war on every other nation, as that is a LOT of enemies who can take those ports, or they would simply black death them to hell, and no longer trade there. Since IoM lacks any monopoly their ports can be avoided.

Granted i don't think id want this as a feature, since i do think it will be more problematic then beneficial, but i do think wars should have some stuff added to them. Perhaps a way to declare a type of war, with different effects

eg- a trade war would make it to where those flying enemy flags will have a added tax for trading in your ports,
or a conquest war would give bonuses to influence gain against enemy ports(as in your trying to conquer their ports.)

Aye.... that I agree with. Right now there is no benefit to make an official declaration of war using nation diplomacy mechanics.
