I know to little about treasure hunting to comment properly. But my first thought is...
Having a higher percentage of pay out for NPC gold then Player gold. But someone who hunts or has 100 million buried should comment as I don't use this feature.
Second thought would be each level of this tech reduces amount of turns needed or and increase of area revealed.... IDK

Perhaps, 2 % for Player and then 5% for NPC - Maybe 3% as 5 *20 = 100% extra gold BUT 3*20 = 60% extra gold.
Also perhaps a Legendary card could be made 'Reveals how much a player has in the ground of ...' ( Player chooses Port )
It comes in groups
Less then 10 Million
More then 10 Million
More then 50 Million
Jackpot! 100 Million at least!
But that is a different suggestion.

I am not very knowledgeable on the entirety of Treasure Hunt but I think a tech to support and existing game mechanic is a great idea. I'll leave the #'s for you all to hash out.
+1

I love the idea of a tech for treasure hunting / burying. As Shadow brought up perhaps a turn reduction of some sort that reduces the amount of turns one needs to bury/recover his treasure could be added as well. Currently with banks and gold bars, burying ones treasure has become an obsolete feature for most. As pirates are generally more restricted when it comes to banks, a reduction in turns required to bury/recover ones treasure would make it much more appealing.
My thoughts:
Bonus per level
- Increases gold per turn ratio when burying / recovering by 5%. (this would affect the "never costs less than 1 turn per 250k where the 5% is added to the 250k cap. for example: 5% of 250k is 12.5k, 250k + 12.5k = 262.5k. At level 1 you now pay 1 turn for every 262.5k you bury or recover. At level 20 you pay 1 turn for every 500k you bury or recover.)
- 1% less turns required when hunting a players treasure. A treasure with 1,999 turns invested requires the hunter have 3,998 turns invested in the hunt. Any treasure buried with more than 2,000 turns only requires the hunter to have invested 1 turn more than the defender has. Example: level one would reduce the required 3,998 by 1% making the hunter need 40 less turns to find a treasure protected by 1,999. At level 20 the hunter would need 3,199. If the defender has 6,000 turns protecting their gold, the hunter need only use 5,940 turns at level 1 and 4,800 at level 20.
- All successful treasure hunts generate 2.5% more profit (Paid by the game) At level 20 thats 50% more income. NPC hunts are common and on average this could generate an extra 3-4mill per hunt. For a large player treasure I believe 15-18mill to be average this gives a bonus of 7.5 - 9 mill. (dont forget you would still need to invest thousands of turns so this will make it more viable than the current system)

I stopped treasure hunting when so many ports started returning miserable port maximums : I suppose banks have much reduced the amounts being buried and much that was buried by active players has been dug up again and invested in hide-outs and such-like. I dont think I would be inclined to invest much in such a technology given it will only be worthwhile until inactive treasures have been cleaned out and the few biggish current players get pissed off at losing chunks too often and find alternate storage.

a pure burying/recovering tech could make this feature more popular again. for reason Charles V. stated.
an aid to get your treasury stolen is not necessary. (just like there is no need to give salvaging a boon.) to make treasure hunting more popular is to get more treasure in the ground. to get more in the ground is to make is easier and saver! Therefore i propose that this tech
adds 1 % per level to the protecting turns a player puts on his treasure. (e.g. lvl10= 10% --> 100 turns investment gives 110 turns protection)
