Adding ships to empty fleets

When you make a new fleet, and choose "Add a new ship to this fleet", you can choose any of your ships, no matter what port they are in. HOWEVER: If a fleet becomes empty for some reason (all ships sunk, stolen or removed), the fleet belongs to a port, and you can ONLY add ships from that port to the fleet. If you want to make a fleet with ships from another port, you'll have to first delete that fleet (even if you have plenty of admirals), then make a new fleet. I find this rather cumbersome (yes, I do this a lot).

Suggestion A: When adding ships to an empty fleet, you can ALWAYS choose any ship from any port.

Also, the list of ships to choose from can be rather cumbersome to look through if you have lots of ships not in fleets.

Suggestion B: When adding ships to fleets, the list of ships should be sorted according to which port they are in.

I agree it needs improvement

if you could add ships from any port it would eliminate the need for open travel

if you mean that you can move an empty fleet to another port and fill it with ships from that port that would be useful

when adding ships

it should be listed by port (alpabetical ) then by ship in shipwright order

however - by ship in shipwright order - then by port (alpabetical ) would also be very useful

i would like to see a system where you could select either option

I would also like to see a check box after the ships - so that you could add up to 5 selected ships to a fleet at one time

even better if there was an additional check box to max out the crew and cannon of those ships if you wanted to

I suggested this or asked a question about it, CJ just said to delete the fleet and create a new one because there are starving kids in Africa and I don't want to click a few extra times

I remember, Chilbooti. Sorry for not looking up your suggestion and adding to it; that would have been the proper way. Also, I think there are no reasons why this should NOT be possible. Since I AM able to delete the fleet and make a new one anywhere I want, it does not change the rules to allow me to fill any EMPTY fleets with ships from any ports. Any EMPTY fleet should also be given 0 danger, obviously - just as if you had deleted it and made a new one.

This suggestion would REALLY make play easier for me. As it is, I often spend lots of time deleting empty fleets and creating new ones, which is completely pointless - I had one empty fleet, and get another empty fleet (the only difference is that the OLD fleet belonged to a port, whereas the NEW fleet does not, and thus I can add any ship I want to). Being able to add ships from ANY port to ANY empty fleet, would be a great help. Sorting the ships that can be added, by which port they are in, would help a bit, too.

Yes, I do this a lot.

I also agree with William One Eye that you should also be able to select multiple ships at once to add to a fleet. Adding one at a time is a pain.

+1 to ship sorting
-1 to auto-deletion of fleets

I'm not asking for fleets to be auto-deleted. Sure, that would help a little, but what I suggest is better. I suggest that if a fleet is empty, the following things should apply:

1) It's danger becomes 0
2) It's possible to add ships from any port to this fleet

This does not help or hinder anyone except by being much more convenient than the existing rules, since you could just delete the fleet and add a new one anyway, which would have both the properties I described. I just don't want to have to go to the trouble of deleting and adding fleets all the time.

Of course, once a ship is added, the fleet has a port, and only ships from that port can be added.

CDV, as always, I appreciate comments, even "+1" and "-1", but it would really be much more helpful if you also explained why you think an idea is good or bad. If there is some disadvantage of my suggestion, I would like someone to point it out for me. Perhaps I am missing something. The only thing I think could possibly be affected negatively by this suggestion, is some "fleet statistics" for earnings and such. And I must admit that those statistics mean little or nothing to me. And for those who believe such statistics are important, since I am not asking for auto-deletion, even keeping the statistics could easily be managed.

In case you do not get it, with a single Treasure Fleet card you can move hundreds of ships (especially if you have flying Dutchman cards) with no danger.

There are more exploits I can think as well. So, while I understand the need (a lot easier of course) this is not the way to go to improve it.

Also:
Code: Select all
September 10, 2012
0.8.119: New automatic rule: Automatic removal of ALL EMPTY fleets at the top of each hour.
