Fame: Possible use

For most us fame is just some random number that serves very little purpose.

How about giving some sort of bonus to players who are able to maintain their fame above certain levels.

These bonuses could be something like
- Increased Vote Power (nation voting)
- Increased profit on trading fleets
- Increased influence for every gold coin spent when building up a port

I think vote power bonus should be influence, not fame, related : thus rewarding those who spend coin/cards in that area to the benefit of the nation.
A trade bonus is also a good idea : a 'good name' should benefit trading relationships.
I agree with the idea of fame adding a boost to port-building influence : the renown of the player would add 'interest' in the public arena.

I do not think we need more usages for fame. The ability to use Politician Speech and transform fame points in gold coins is more than enough. Through this card, you can use the fame points to a whole lot more areas than the ones suggested here. No?

While we are here, I want to underline some things:
-Fame is what the word implies. It is not a power indicator.
Since day one, people confuse Fame with Power. We want to stand out from any other game; we will never create a list that sorts by power. The reason is that we cannot tell for certainty, therefore we will avoid it.

-Fame formula has been through at least 3 major improvements in the last year ( http://s2.piratesglory.com/index.php?pa ... earch=Fame ). Whether you have noticed it or not, it is now a much more reliable indicator than it used to be.
Due to the consistency of the formula, there are some traits that are relevant to the position of the players in the list:
-It is hard to steal fame from those that amass it.
-Fame attracts attention to those who are amassing it.
-High fame acts like an activity meter, a high fame inactive member will not hold it for too long.
-Those with high fame stand out in some way. Looking at Top 20 you will see players that you know already for some reason.

+1 to Capt. Jack.

Just as in real life, fame only matters for the vain, fame is for people who wants to be seen. Those with real power always avoids the radar, for good reasons.

Woups... My most sincere apology, your highness! What I meant was; high fame is a reward in itself!

*EDIT* but to be honest, I'm more impressed with your influence than fame!

Hmm...use for fame?

What do you do when you're famous?

Get beaten to death by fans. People ask autographs, you sell them and make money!
You can make your own marketing products.

Other than that, when you're famous, people listen to your opinions. When you're famous, you will certainly not be revealing your mobile phone to anyone other than close contacts.

your presence in any event will work up the issue to great heights.

On the other hand,

NOTORIETY is a bit different. Show your face in good society and you get punched. Its got little use except in the underworld, where you'll be feared and will be given dishonest but afraid-to-rebel slaves. Notoriety will get you a necklace of rope from any strong enough government.

All your crimes, regardless of scale, will be magnified by people. [There's a big difference between Justin Beiber breaking up with his girlfriend and me scolding my sister, last I knew. NO OFFENSE TO HIS FANS] . On second thought, I apologize more severely to his girlfriend's fans but I used this only to make a point.

Notoriety attracts GOSSIP. Some idea entering your mind? Yeah, you gain a lot of fame from dealing with such notorious persons.

Notoriety will be a determining factor in whether another notorious person will even deign in dealing with you (whether by deceit or murder is another issue).

There are many more factors definitely, but the game seems to generally tick all these check boxes off. The game is good enough in fameuses and I agree with CJ when he says the Voodoo card is more than enough.

Just submitting my views on the issue for pondering only, though, as I usually do.

Regards,
SJE (I still don't know why I'm following this practice. The forums obviously write my profile name and place the pic right to this piece of text's left. But many people here do that and I kinda got pulled along, so I'll keep it.)

I disagree with that statement to an extent. There is a very easy way to amass fame without being super active. Some one could play the game for about 10 mins once every 3-4 days and still amass large amounts of fame.
