Avonmora Herald Suggestions...

I personally think to be the publisher of the newspaper which means you decide what goes in the newspaper , and to be vice publisher every month we should get a news event saying which Journalist do you vote to be Vice Publisher? Then a few hours later another message for Vice Publisher...

So then players get a chance to vote and it would be more of a political system.

-1 for it.

The best should get the place. The one who has the ability to write interesting articles or make even the boring or un-noticable thing an interesting news is a good journalist and he should be placed as the publisher or vice publisher, provided that he is active to a good extent. Making it vote thing means you can have your whole guild and some other guilds to vote for you. This doesn't give the person who has the talent and capability the chance. It would be better that Captain Jack or some other unbiased player choose it.

I agree with Warrior. It should be based on skill (which I know is somewhat still a social or political construct) instead of straight voting. Otherwise, as Warrior mentioned, it is likely to become more of a guild and national agenda to vote certain ways.

The Herald is more of a "world" newspaper and not a country based paper, and having it be more neutral to politics/social influence (somewhat like Switzerland) is more of what I would like to see for it.

It is a business, not a democracy. The look of the paper would constantly be changing.

I will suggest for the betterment of the herald content, guilds nominate a communications officer to submit guild achievements and milestones in much the same way the SSTG has done.

The editor-in-chief then decides what gets printed in each issue. A feedback section that readers could respond in would also be great addition. An open comments section or 'Letters to the Editor' column if you will.

I agree, editorship or the position of journalist should be free of national or guild interest. I also strongly agree that it shouldn't be a popularity contest! The paper should be independent and speak truth to those in power.

The idea of guilds or nations appointing someone to speak for them is also a good idea, but we also need plenty of independent article ( or ideas for articles) as well, so the editor can pick and choose.

This thread is a good start, but what else do we want to see? Should there be tips ( such as good trade routes) or do we leave that to the player to find out (and if so are we excluding the less savvy - adding to the retention problem)?

i would suggest that the time of post be moved to shortly after upkeep. this might allow for incidents like today's headline to be avoided. that headline would have made sense at this time yesterday, but it will be the headline all day today when a simple glance at the map will show it to be outdated. considering it's only a short paragraph, that article could have been re-written in the reverse after realizing that it has in fact changed hands.... again..

I think that was actually yesterday's edition. The new newspaper hasn't come in yet. ...at least, I haven't gotten my new paper yet. I am not sure when it hits my electronic doorstep though.
