Rare X
player gains x fame
circumstances of how X relates to fame is probably up for discussion.
the basic idea of a player being able to hide in newcomer protection is something that needs to be counter-able.

The fact that admin felt it was necessary to provide Additional newcomer protection beyond the minimum turns protection that was provided is quite beyond my comprehension. It must have been bad at some point to take such drastic measures.
Still, what maybe seemed a good idea at the time has proved out to be a serious loophole that many take advantage of.
How about get rid of the low fame no hit rule and provide a check box to increase turns protection if a new player thinks they need it.
I'm not in favor of polluting the voodoo card stack much more than it is. Been waiting for the wife to send me a duplicate card for weeks !

it came the other way around actually. new players were being used to attack large trade fleets, so the min turn shield was invented. the fame thing previous to that, and since specialty rares are a thing it would be a very choice, yet valuable voodoo card.
also, admin has repeatedly dismissed the suggestion, as it has been suggested by many people, myself included before. id just like to see some balance introduced to this obviously exploited aspect in this game.

true enough...a rare card that bolsters fame would balance out the fact there is a rare card that reduces fame.
I think the problem might be addressed with the new changes that are coming as admin skillfully eluded to. Something about a trade fleet potentially losing millions when lit up and "taking it in the neck" until the fame drops low enough will be too expensive.
We wait to see.

You are both wrong as the 25 fame limit has been there since day 1.

how was i wrong... i said that....
anyhow. Capt Jack, any thoughts on the card, or any workaround of the issue with invulnerable giant fleets?

they are not invulnerable... just tough nuts to crack... but the tools exist already to have at them : its just a case of co-ordinating the attack with others to gain maximum benefit from it, cos I would agree they are 'almost' (*) invulnerable to a single raider. Can you kill them in one hit? No, but you can wear them down with a sustained campaign : just takes the group will and savvy to go for it.
(*) I say almost because they are not theoretically immune to a single raider, just immensely difficult for the single raider to cover all the ground required.

This is not a newcomer protection. This is sort of player protection.
I do not like the suggestion because it asks to change a core element of the game. We always prefer creative ideas that lead in expanding game options, not cutting them.

As someone who was worked down to 25 fame and then attacked with very beatable fleets, to get my fame back up enough to hit again, I think there is really no protection with the 25 fame clause. Especially since the battles in question were reported.
