[No Bug] Royal Complaint About the Chat Window

now mind you i haven't griped on the forum about Anything in several months.

i don't care what browser i or anyone else might be using, but it is reasonable to expect that commonly used browsers shouldn't cause a problem with the chat function.

i routinely get several messages from a new player After they have logged off, or for an even better example, several messages from a buddy that include battle plans etc so that the chat will read

XXX: lets do YYYY
XXX: alright im ready
XXX: are you still there?

except i get all of those messages all at once, after the fact, even when ive been clicking through different options within the game While XXX was still trying to talk to me.

its personally inconvenient because it requires a lot of coordination to keep the Pirate Kings running smoothly, however it seems to be operating against the games best interest when a new player is unable to communicate with whomever is afforded them during their first few minutes of the game.... if all they get are a bunch of "hello" or whatever windows, but the player isn't actually able to communicate with a new player helper, it defeats the whole point of having a new player helper sub-routine worked into the gaming code.

this problem has been here for at least several months.

im working for free here trying to retain players for this game

please fix the radio.

Forever Yours,
MAjesty

Click popout once you open it.

Other than that, a chat is supposed to be used live. Use the shoutbox for the rest. At any case, if you want different functionality use SUGGESTION forums.

Reading more carefully, I realized that you speak about INSTANT MESSENGER messages. I am not sure that I understand your problem. If I did, then there is no bug.

on a lesser and unrelated note, the gov's daughter option should include a divorce option... if a player wants to upgrade their lady/mans they're throwing away the turns they spent getting the first one... doesnt seem like that would lessen the game for anyone

gettit this suggestion here was two-fer. sorry i guess this fits better in suggestions and not bugs...

having just seen ur response, i really dont know what u mean by click popout... that might be part of the problem....

Read my response again as I edited it after first reply. Don't mix issues with each other - they are ignored this way. This is what confused me in your first post; writing an exact thing in the fewer words possible is very helpful. Writing essays that mention a lot of different things just lead me to skip chunks of what you write.

The only possible reason I can think for getting them delayed, is because they send you the messages when you are idling.

The minimum ping is less than 1 second, which means that if you are moving in the game you will receive new responses instantly. If you are idling, the maximum ping is 30 seconds (if I recall correctly) which means that in this case you might receive messages in bulk, delayed at a maximum time of 30 seconds.

That being said, this is an expected functionality to save server resources on idling users and not a bug. I do not think it would play an important role if a message is delayed up to 30 seconds when you are idle. I am not sure how many minutes of inactivity it needs to flag you as idle but it might be something of about 5 minutes or 10. We will check this though and make sure it is long enough to ensure that you do not miss crucial messages on hot moments.

Finally, the only problem I am aware and we want to fix is that sometimes the chat windows are closed and the conversation history does not works well. Coincidentally, we were working on this when you posted this topic.

We have improved latency configuration for better delivery times.

In detail:
-We increased maximum ping to 20 seconds (so no matter how many hours you are idle, you will still get a message in 20 seconds max).
-We reduced the increment step to reach the 20 seconds (it will need longer time before messages start to delay that much).

sorry, but no...

it's possible that it might have something to do with my internet... but i sort of doubt it. because it's not an issue i have with any other chat service.

for example. right now im talking to a player. if i change the window by say clicking on plunder. the chat window goes away...

now im on the plunder screen/tavern screen or whatever. it still has one bar with the players name on it and the green light to say they're there. however if i click on the bar, nothing comes up. the only way to get the chat back up is to open a Second chat window with anyone on my buddy list, and Then click the bar with the person im trying to talk to.

even after doing that, more often then not the entire chat is wiped away, including any new messages. all that's in the chat window is the first line of the previous conversation, ie Me: hello, and the 10 lines of chat which followed it is now gone.

and now i can Hear them sending me messages. but i just cant see them...
