one aspect that Maha really likes in Avonmora is that success is defined in a different way by most of the players. it starts with the initial choice, piracy, merchant and nobility. to set one goal to all participants of a contest makes for clear winners, but for less fun. the idea of different goals which partly overlap but not totally give the game her appeal.

in the case of a contest i would suggest that there will be points/prices for port control, largest daily income, total net worth, fame, total plunder, total influence, total attacks etc.
every day during the contest a list or chart is published so that the fans can follow the competition.

The competitors (guild leaders) have to submit beforehand to what categories they want to become the winner. this is kept secret however until after the game. the winners are those who succeed in their goals and share the price.

This topic seems to have generated a vigorous discussion. As originally envisioned experienced players would be able to utilize the 'knowledge is power' adage but not use an edge built up over time in Avonmora to transfer an advantage to the next Realm by way of credits raised in the market of the former to fund aspirations in the latter or other similar stratagems. I never intended for the existing hierarchy of players & cabals to be given the latitude to treat the next iteration simply as an extension of their existing sphere of influence. While one might expect this to occur organically to some extent identities & account numbers should not be readily apparent from the 1st to the 2nd.

This concept is neither better nor worse than the game you are already playing the only difference being the opportunity to participate in this evolution from the very beginning as an open ended sand box.

The thought of having to start again on a different server because this server has become a ghost town does not appeal to me.
One of the things I like about Avonmora is that it forces a player to grow a pair, a player must live with the consequences of their actions, there are no do overs, no restarts, and no hiding on another server.
I don't know, it seems to me if they ain't got you one way they got you another,
So what's the answer? that's what I keep asking myself, what's it all about?
Know what l mean?

Well said Grapefruit.

I would play both full time, I guess it would just depend on the numbers. I too wouldn't want the current server to suffer
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

Can make this kind of like a next world thing, where you can trans gc from old account but every 10k is only 1gc.

I think grapefruit`s idea for the second server is best for now. Have people buy in to play special events. I don't think the rewards need to be much, the biggest thing I would want is an achievement if I won.

It may be that this idea shifts to making it the "open sandbox" that Jeanne de clisson mentioned, though the above seems like a safer next step, the beta testing that someone mentioned.

Like grapefruits idea.

Another possibility is a test or challenge zone. 1 player invites another or a group. No reasources are brought in from the actual game. They select from resource packs. The choose from a set selection of time frames. They can battle for fun, practice, teaching, or experiment. Lot of possible uses for this.

Perhaps this area could be used for this purpose 95% of the time and be used for a multi player event once or twice a year.

This thread has certainly spawned more than just a single suggestion with ideas being offered that have little bearing to the original subject. On the one hand you have the proposed Mirror sever with minor superficial variations to the map & port assignments to make it original enough to allow for a new geometric matrix & on the other hand there are a variety of proposals that I would categorize as expansionary in concept.

The merits of these 2 vectors should be considered separately.

Did you know the server we now play on is actually the second server? That's why all the URLs start with "s2".

Server 1 ended in January 2011.
