one aspect that Maha really likes in Avonmora is that success is defined in a different way by most of the players. it starts with the initial choice, piracy, merchant and nobility. to set one goal to all participants of a contest makes for clear winners, but for less fun. the idea of different goals which partly overlap but not totally give the game her appeal.
in the case of a contest i would suggest that there will be points/prices for port control, largest daily income, total net worth, fame, total plunder, total influence, total attacks etc.
every day during the contest a list or chart is published so that the fans can follow the competition.
The competitors (guild leaders) have to submit beforehand to what categories they want to become the winner. this is kept secret however until after the game. the winners are those who succeed in their goals and share the price.
