Limiting Nations is not the way to go. We have a mass amount of players who join this game and then just leave. Imagine a player base 10x what it is now. This would surely change how we play and view the game today. In my mind we need new game features that add more interest, conflict, strategy, wealth... but most importantly, Player Retention.

I like the fact that someone like Ivan is challenging a nation like Spain (pretty much all by himself). He shouldn't have his nation taking away from him and forced into 1 of 6,10,21 nations.

My personal view is the number of ports is fine as is right now. So is the mass choice of nations. If a player wants to grow a nation large enough to take a port or 7 then they must work at it.

Now everyone go buy $10 worth of credits and support the development team and ask for more new fun and exciting content. ;)
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

I think this would work well :)

I am undecided on whether fewer nations is a good thing to begin with though.

I also think this would be a perfect idea!

Even i am not %100 sure about decreasing nation count im getting warm to that idea. even if it will happen i like the Lockreed's idea of changing names for lore and history based fictions.

I agree with Shadowood's concern but when i joined this game i saw nation list and choose mine. it didnt worked well:) if the nation list would be based on fictions still i would play the game. also newcomers wouldnt know that once name of real nations exist in the game. in my opinion it will only effect current player base.

When I first started, I assumed I had to choose my nation of birth by just the way the question was asked in registration.
If there was more info given at that stage of the process, I may have chosen some other nation to call my home.

It's been a long time since I registered so really I cannot comment as things may have changed since then but, a history and stats of a new comers chosen nation may help steer their decision to starting out in established nations or give incentive for a new charismatic leader to buck the odds and try to build a new dominant nation.

After all, I can recall when countries like USA, IoM or Bermuda or Egypt owning a port were nothing but a wishlist for some players. They are examples of dedication, perseverance and a few players with a like mindedness that made this possible.
