Its nice to be historically accurate, but as we cant actual hang the beggars and thus end their scurvy careers permanently as would have been the norm, in the game we have to find a solution which pays homage to the past but remains practical and rational within the game system.

My main concern is not to get to a complex code-hungry solution which, due to other pressures on devs time, doesnt get implemented for months, if not years. thus removing the option to turn off auto-pay is quick, simple and serves the purpose.

once we start making compromises for the sake of expediency the whole world goes to hell...

well, I'd be happy to hang them.. but doubt we could code that...

ONLY because it would be a programming nightmare...no hanging. But it could be that fixed assets could be seized, ships impounded etc...essentially hanging them up until debts are settled.

taking the ships may not be the best idea though. If someone owes 200k gc but they only have 5 howkers, you cant sell those for more than 35k gc for the 70% of ship value. doesnt seem like it would make your money back. its better off letting the fleet make profit and garnish the wages

true...however no guarantee they will make a profit to garnish. (point of definition...the gold coin generated from an activity isn't truly a wage, but revenue...so it shouldn't be a garnishing of wages, rather a lien against property and/or a judgement that must be satisfied)

A lien against property would prevent the debtor from profiting from the sale of property until the lien was cleared, a judgement would require the debtor to satisfy the judgement before realizing any profits.

I disagree, I think it's more practical to allow a garnish on wage (trade income) than property. This also allows players the option to still refuse to pay however they would need to give up trading and resort to piracy. (more realistic in my mind) if they ever started to trade again the garnish would still be in place and payments would resume.

I would say garnish all income until debt is paid. That would force them to pay. Another alternative is bankruptcy where they lose everything except one ship that would allow them to gather resources to rebuild.

would all of the assets lost then be transferred to whomever money was owed to?
