After all, a sudden increase is the most convenient recipe of all as it won't give room for abuse. (Like buying all current stock from the rich, waiting for the formula update).

So, we have proceeded with the formula change.

The whole concept however, give us the idea to make the formula dynamic as well. Something we can surely examine the next time we will need to talk about this.

Revisiting this thread, forgive if not the most current, some observations after passage of time. I believe there have been some more corrections since CJ's last post.
The price difference between ports has improved since the latest adjustment but is it enough to promote independent shippers ? We very rarely see much difference across the board
Is it possible to include a time factor to allow huge profits for short periods of time independent of port stocks ? Kinda like a mega sale in one port for 4 hrs and another port will pay premium prices for the same amount of time.

Just thinking about ways to make GB pricing a little more dynamic and promote more GB trade. Of course there is also more risk for these larger profits.
It should also increase GB skirmish chances as an enterprising pirate would lay in wait at these ports of opportunity as they popped up periodically.
Or perhaps admin thinks this is too radical or too prone for abuse.

I'm afraid the dynamic nature of the pricing model doesnt allow for more than a few bites at any trading cherry that appears : given the in-built buy/sell spread of around 120gc, any apparent port-to-port margin is rapidly eroded by a few transactions. Straight-forward GS-to-port sales are easier, as one can chase the best price from a range of ports and thus get more transactions done before the value erodes. of course, what represents a 'good' price is dependent on ones GS level and making cost, also what profit margin the goldsmith considers as adequate to cover potential skirmish losses.
All said and done, mostly if one wants to aim at high margins, one has to rely on a very big purchase or sale in a port causing a price spike allowing bigger profits for those who can get in quick. These are rare events and perhaps need replacing with some more random game-generated 'events' to cause wider margins which can then set the traders and makers running for the prize.

The best improvement to the gold bars model, is a voodoo card that gives you the equal bonus of indian companies on manual sale. This means that players will be able to stock gold bars across all ports and sell when the card is active without losing the bonus.

This card, obviously, needs to be more expensive than the indian cards, so we are speaking about a rare card. Most probably, you will need 2 of them for full bonus. That's just an estimation though, It is something we need to study first.

This, combined with Warehouse Tycoon + Duke Bonus should be enough for more practical gold bars trading.

the name of the card could be 'silverfleet' after the spanish treasure fleets.

would be nice to have a Piet Heyn card that did something to the treasure fleets as well. maybe a triple negative effect on goldbar sales :)
