Actually, I would favor this kind of formula applying to ALL movements : sailors lived in daily risk of misfortune : ships suffered total loss with no evidence left of the cause : thus the legends of Krakens, sea-serpents, sirens and other deadly creatures.
I think salvage would be a good place to test-run the idea : if it fails, its a fairly temporary phenomenon anyway.

Let's be honest here: There is one player mass-removing the pre-existing shipwrecks right now but there will be new shipwrecks created by naval battles and inexperience captains sailing too fast between ports. That one player is leaving the ships out of fleet so they will either end up on the sea bottom again or get sold to the shipwright.

This suggestion would help prevent the mass-removal of the remaining 14,000 shipwrecks still on the sea floor. It's a bit silly to be able to mass-hunt shipwrecks all day with zero danger of failure. I give it a +1 so that shipwreck hunting is something we can continue to enjoy without 1 player swallowing the supply.

I think something that might be a clever idea is to make salvaging ships a sort of special event. for example lets say that every new year salvaging becomes possible for a month or 2, and the rest of the year the sea bed is untouchable except for tidal waves, this lets the sea bed get cluttered a bit, and then every new year everyone can jump in to clean it up again. could call the event New Year Cleaning. because honestly like DoS said, the feature will be somewhat dead.

what do the rest of you guys think?

Davinci definitely did get the bulk of the ships, but he definitely was not the only one who benefitted from it. I by myself found 1600 ships, the best of which was a 25Att level 1 SoTL which I sold for 370 creds. and I am positive other players found some great finds aswell. just because Davinci found the bulk of it does not mean it would not be beneficial to let the seabed be given a break to replenish the wrecks. and it wouldn't be impossible to prevent davinci from claiming the bulk of it everytime. if a player wanted to stop him, he could light him up during the event so Davinci wont be able to fully commit to salvaging, or hire MERCs,

Ah yes; another topic nobody was there to stop Da Vinci. I remember the days, people 'guarded' there merchant fleets and would not dare to have a 'array' of ships out of that size.

Give the sea bed all the time in the world; as I have said before with many of the features I will have no part in it.

if the wrecks end up being 0 or a just a very low number, that will make salvaging pretty much a pointless feature, since the only reason to do so is if a valuable ship gets sunk, otherwise most players will know all they will find is either nothing, or just cheap ships that are not worth sending a fleet out for 12 hours. I would rather not see this feature become more or less pointless. besides I think it would be interesting and fun to have a yearly event for everyone to compete in salvaging.

its perfectly fine if you want no part of this feature. just like some want no part in other features aswell, plenty of things to do in this game, but for those who are interested in salvaging, such as myself, I believe its important to try to find a way to keep it a viable option and not let it just die out. do I think my proposal is the best method, at the moment yes, but that is why I wish to see what others have to say, and see if an even better solution is there.
