Internet Creepers Infiltrating the Game

Postby MAjesty » Sat Jun 01, 2013 2:18 pm

Hey guys,
All joking aside for a minute.

Has any one else here gotten weird messages from at least one new player recently? I've had two different "new players" who show up, appear to be completely incompetent and unable to learn the game -ive spent over an hour and a half on each of these players- yet they show a deep interest in my Real Name, Facebook account, where i live, and other personal real life details. They are also apparently Very Active, logging in repeatedly, and talking to multiple players, but they have one ship that may not even be in a fleet. definitely not running a trade route.

yet they feel close enough to want my real name and facebook account.

this has all the hallmarks of internet creeps, scammers, and other ugly diseases found on most social networks.

i'll post their names if other people have been having the same experiences. but for now, it's just two different accounts signed up in the past week.

regards,
-Your Majesty

Unfortunately I met one of these recently. They opened the conversation with hey there and informed me of there sexual orientation. Sad, some people having nothing better to do. The player name was -redacted-. Hope we can get rid of these people, don't want them scaring off new players.

That's not a creeper.
No one can message you through IM, unless you add him in your friendlist. An exception to this, is a new player who -based on your notification settings- may receive a message like:

"Do you need any help?" or "If you need help, message me" etc

So replies like "okay..what???..and i will" do not belong to a creeper but to a normal user.

If you do not want to be involved in helping new players OR if you don't tend to answer to them, then it is better to turn this option OFF through your notification settings (It is entitled as New player in Pirates Glory). This way you will both help yourself (no more notifications by the time you didn't want them) and the game (another player will be selected that may respond to them).
