Yes but the playing field heavily favors coiners who can buy turns continually and the coin to invest in these. My techs are still very low compared to a lot of players newer than me because of their wallet.
And I have maxed some of my techs without spending a cent on the game in almost three years : and done it without focusing all my efforts or resources towards them, being as I have lots of other demands for my wee purse to fund. Yes, funding the game with in-game purchases can be a boost to a player : but its not the be-all and end-all of matters : its still possible to progress to a high level without those boosts, just a bit harder but then the achievement feels all the better.
A bad player with a big purse remains a bad player : a good player can work around a poor purse and excel regardless.
