when they cant get benefits from ports like nations what is the point for them to take a port and keep it at hand? Since they dont have a ruler or council (it seems not gonna happen soon) how do you think they will manage to do it?

if you need to be a part of a nation for taking a port what is the point of pirate nation? Currently pirate nation not different than contentration camps. There is no meaning being part of it. Just who goes inactive for a long period of times becomes a pirate.

There are some players chooses path of piracy but not under the jolly roger. Why do you think they arent under jolly roger? Because there is no point to do that. If we dont want to see them under that flag that much just remove pirates nation. and make a stateless banner and put all inactives under that.

While I don't think port ownership is for pirates. I have seen and suggested myself a Pirate only island.

those who played the game for a while and fly the jolly Roger know what they are doing. they like it :)
if they want they can grab a port they can as it was done not to long ago. but why would a free living pirate make himself vulnerable with port maintenance? they purposefully limit the number of their fleets etc, why add a liability to their resources. ports stand for order and trade benefits :)

pirates work hard to take what others have worked hard for. that is what they like to do.
if you ask them what they want, they may answer that they like to get a slightly enhanced mid-range ship :)

Not all are after the same goals. not all roles should have similar rewards and boons.

Flying the Jolly Roger is, in my opinion, something one should do if one for some reason cannot be part of a large nation.

In my opinion (still), there should be fewer nations (for several reasons), and harder to change nationality. When changing nation, one should be forced to live for some time as a pirate before joining the new nation. So, I see being a pirate as something you do if you either are forced to it, or if you want to attack players from all the large nations.

Mugiwara wrote:Also There is no tax income for pirates from controlled ports. Which means they dont even need to worry about Black Deaths or Transport Immigrants. It shouldnt be like that. If you want to control a port you should lose when you have less pops or you should get benefits when you have a lot of pops.

My suggestions:

Pirates will get %1 Plunder and Skirmish bonus all across the Avonmora for each 100M population they have(hard cap %5).
Which will make pop more important for them.

So at most, you gain a mere 5% bonus on a max plunder of 345,000 (not counting any ship level loss bonus) which equates to 17,250 bonus gc. But to get this I need to invest in reaching 500mill pop with TI cards that are currently worth near 3mill each. That is about 174 plunders for the bonus to pay for the TI used.. sorry mate, not feeling this one.

1-) Skirmish and Plunder profits will be increase by %5 in controlled ports(will be paid by npc).
If we compare with nations title bonuses or tax income its not that overpower. Only have limited usage.

Small boost to profit, seems reasonable and practical. Again though, never worth it if I had to grow the port.

2-) Skirmish and Plunders will return 1% of total plundered gc value as influence for a pirate attacking within a controlled port.
Since pirates dont have council members, kings, treasury or tax income like nations they must have a way to help their port's influences.
This value not even close to tax income of -Every resource sold from the port market, returns 1% of the value to the nation that controls it.

Quite a minor affect. Better off plundering a couple NPC's and investing the profit to influence if that was the goal.

3-) In controlled ports Skirmish escape rate will reduce to %10.
Small addition to define their role.

Quite realistic and so far the best bonus for any pirate controlled port, a few others like this and it may be worth it to pirates holding a port. They would need to be specific and pick a tool port for max profit. Party ports, as previously experienced would lose most of the traffic with a diminished population.

4-) In controlled ports buying a resource will cost -1 gold for all players. And selling rum and tobacco to pirates ports will give +1 gold profit per crate for all players(dont need to be pirate for this).
This is needed to make sure traders wont skip pirates port's. In my opinion this nicely fits high risk high reward concept.

Traders will still earn more on party resources with party cards than straight trade with this bonus even with india cards. And again back to the population.. no pop no party trade.

5-) In controlled ports %10 additional chance to find players buried treasures during treasure hunt with %10 less turn cost than owner of treasures(only for pirates).
This is also mostly against pirates just a different aspect.

Due to pirates not using banks and some not being able to trust bankers as they sometimes upset them, pirates are the most likely to bury a treasure. You said this is against pirates and i agree, I do not see any bonuses yet though that would convince me to put my buried savings at a higher risk.

6-) In controlled ports %10 chance a skirmish will not cost any skirmish points(hard cap 1 at Skirmish Tactics below level 10. hard cap 2 at Skirmish Tactics below level 20. hard cap 3 at Skirmish Tactics at level 20 hards cap applied daily).
Its not easy to leveled your skirmish tactics research. So mostly its not a big powerspike for pirates. And also will help to keep traders under pressure.

% chance seems low to me on this one for the cap levels being so strict. Would either need to increase the chance to even 50% with those suggested caps or remove the caps all together. At max skirmish tactics you get 23 points per day, at 10 % chance you'll probably only gain 2 free skirmishes daily as it is suggested. A freak day where you actually got even 5 free skirmishes would happen so infrequently this could not be OP.

This is officially my first suggestion topic. Maybe you wont like this suggestion but for further suggestions the reason of dislike will be helpful to me.

After some researchs I balanced the bonuses and also added some more tweaks.

Waiting your precious comments about this suggestions.

All of my brief thoughts have been posted within the quote in red. Please do not take them in any way other than constructive criticism. Keep the suggestions coming and you've done well for your first post. The only bits lacking are the experience or knowledge that come with time.

Need to go - 1 here.

Thanks for all comments. They all show different aspects, and your feedbacks valuable for me. I can improve my informations and experiences with your feedbacks and comments. But in the end i must admit im a bit confused:) now I need your helps more than before.

Pirates want to hold a port or not?
Piracy should support port holding or not?
Controlling a Port should only give benefits to trader or all?

If we can answer this questions maybe we will figure out if this suggestion(or other pirates port benefit suggestions) is necessary or not. Maybe a poll would be helpful but i dont know how im gonna make one:)

Charles Vane You really put effort on your comments.
Normally i can answer all of them one by one without problem but before that i want to learn the answers of questions i listed in this post. In the end if it still worth to try and people would like to have some different aspects my suggestions can change.
A few adjust;
1-) Change rates or encourage the pop increase with a different way.
5-) Remove buried treasure find chance,
6-) increase rate on skirmish no cost point,

Numbers, rates, suggestions all changeable, but at first we should decide to
Are we would like to see changes on pirates port benefits or keep it how it is?

Most pirates doesn't want port because it makes them weaker... there are few which do but after they figure it is impossible to hold port on their own either they dismiss that idea or they join nation that already holds port
