NPC Flags

Should NPCs have flags? I think the flags for NPC fleets must be removed so they are open to attacks by anybody. These fleet are computer generated and it does not make sense to have NPC fleets with flags limiting NPCs being attacked by other country players only. The point I want to make is that NPCs cannot be defended in any case, so why should it be that they should be subject to attacks by other countries? Why should the tax revenue loss be borne only by the flag nation? If tax revenues have to be linked, they need to be linked to active players. An active player gets 1000 citizens (linked to his fame) so the higher fame he gets, the higher revenue generated for the nation.

NPCs should pay taxes and get ensurence money when attacked. Just like everyone else that holds a flag. This would actually creat more interaction on the countries that hold no port. Great idea.

I think you 2 might be confused how NPC fleet works. These fleets don't exist at all until one patrols in a port, upon which they are randomly generated. The flag they are given if I remember correctly is randomly chosen from the top 10 nations.

Due to this fact, NPC fleets can't contribute to taxes, because they don't actually exist except for very short periods of time. This could also be exploited by players to gain additional taxes-just patrol a crap ton and don't attack any of the fleets you make. Combine this with insanely high taxes and you can easily milk the system for tons of gold.

Removing NPC flags would also mean that anyone looking to rank up in a nation can not hunt them for points-they would be forced to attack players with flags.

edit-also unless they changed it or I'm mistaken, NPC fleets are only available and attackable by the person who patrols for them, so the only person who can hit a npc fleet you generate, is you.

edit2-double checked-it's top 20 nations that you can find, chance is equal between them, save for pirate hunter fleets which are never your flag.
-1.

Right now they only exist when one creats them. Dont you think it would be interesting if at least some actually existed and the nations had to keep taxes and ensurence in a balance to make sure they want to stay? And maybe some could have the same owner (like a richer NPC) and the countries had to create some NPC war fleets to fight the NPC pirate fleets. So many things could be added.

Those are interesting ideas, and are definitely worth considering and discussing, but it would be pretty low on the to do list. There's still SO many other things that need polishing/adding/implementing that are a bit more important. Better diplomacy, Forts, Land battles, Flagships, Etc. But this does sound like something that could be a nice addition, so you might want to think about how it should/could work and post a rough draft in it's own topic. Then others can discuss and refine it.

Better diplomacy :y :)

-1 on NPC paying taxes.
Being the NPC only flying one of the top 20 Nations, this would be a difficulty more for new Nations to appear on the map. We have hundreds of Nations in Avonmora, but only a small group led a role in Avonmora history.
IIRC there was a suggestion to reduce them to (no more than 20/30) invented Nations, something like The Aerican Empire, Freedonia, The Kingdom of Talossa, etc.

Actually these examples exist, they are called micronations, but they aren't represented in Avonmora :D

Hostility points from NPC attacks are not useful for any measurement. We attack the merchant or treasure fleet even if they belong to our nation. NPC fleets offer newcomers a chance to grow faster and learn some :hh skills without having any addition to danger. By removing nations info from NPC fleets, there is no change to the gameplay itself.
