Ship Trait: Salvage

Ship trait name: Salvage

Effect: After defeating a ship in battle, repair an equal of 10% health of enemy defeated ship to this ship.

Example: “ship of the line A” (with salvage) faces “ship of the line B”(without salvage). “Ship of the line A” defeats “ship of the line B” and now “ship of the line A” now recovers 135 health points because the base health of a basic Ship of the Line is 1350HP.

This repair happens immediately after a ship is defeated by salvage, meaning the repair could happen 5 times in a single battle.

The repair does not happen if the ship with salvages loses or sinks.

This effect is not affected by Fire Assault. (Up to discussion and debate.)

Even if the enemy Ship of the Line is damaged before the attack, the salvage ship would still obtain 135 HP from defeating a Ship of the Line. This is based on scraps from the damaged ship still floating around nearby.

Ships with Salvage cannot store HP that exceeds the base HP of the ship itself. Surplus is lost.

It goes as such:

Ship Z has Salvage and ships ABC do not

Ship z is a Man of War and ships ABC are ships of the line. All ships abc are in the same fleet.

ship z defeats ship A. Ship z repairs 135

Ship Z defeats ship B next. Ship z repairs 135

Ship Z defeats ship C next. Ship Z repairs 135.

Plunder/skirmish battle is now over.

Unnecessary complicated. But people in this game seems to like that.

A sloop defeats a Large MerchantMan.

The sloop repairs health equal to 10% of the health of the large merchantman

Doesnt make a lot of practical sense : upon defeat the LMM will have 0% health anyway... so 10% of that aint gonna do much?

More rational would be that the trait automatically repairs the vessel to a set percentage of its own remaining health : i.e the winning vessel has 45% health remaining so the trait grants a 10% repair of 4.5% automatically.

Personally I dont see this adding a great deal and its not a trait I would find to be desirable.

Let me explain it a lil better.

A sotl faces a sotl. Both have 1350 hp.

A sotl beats the other in battle. The winning sotl repairs 135 damage, as 135 is 10% of the enemy ship’s health.

Okay.. thats a bit clearer. The nect issue is that there can be up to 5 vessels in the defeated fleet. So which vessel in the attacking fleet gets that boon.. and from which defeated ship do we take the level of bonus from?
If my first ship beats your first ship.. is thr repair bonus added before I face your second ship or at battles end?
If your second ship beats my first ship, as it may be fatally weakened in the first round, does your second ship then get the repair bonus from my first ship before facing the next?
What happens if the vessel that finally defeats a sotl, for example one with just a handful of HP remaining from its previous round does not have room to 'store' the repair bonus.. does it lose the surplus?
Its all a bit convoluted and complicated.
Methinks you need to go away and think it fully thru and comeback with the mechanism a bit more worked out.

Its clear and simple: whenever it defeats a ship, it gains 10% of its enemy’s basic original total health. This is continuous throughout the battle. Doesnt matter where it is located in the fleet or what ship it battles. The idea is when the ship sinks, it uses the scraps from the ship to repair itself before it fights the next ship.

No.. it wasnt clear and simple at all.. thats why I have asked those questions which needed to have been answered in the OP rather than an assumption being made that we had figured out exactly what you meant but didnt say.

Even if the enemy sotl has 60 health left and a brig kills it with salvage, the brig gains 135 health regardless as the scraps from the sunken ship are still floating around the sea in the battle.
