Suggestion to gravedigging

Postby Donald Trump » Tue Apr 25, 2017 3:49 pm

I would like to suggest that gravedigging is not allowed. This is a common rule on many forums.

Gravedigging is when a user takes a dead thread that was prevalent months ago, and bumps it for no good reason.

This is usually forum spam and they are not relevant.

This as well includes suggestions that were rejected via many -1s or in the Disproved section.

-1. This can do some good but overall would limit forums which I don't like. For instance, AyeCappy vs World would get locked when he doesn't get on for an extended period but when he comes back it's his forum to post on and mess around. If the forum wasn't unlocked, he'd take to other forums thus causing complaints of off topic posts and the possible reversing of this implementation anyways.
PM me any complaints (10M gold coin wire fee is mandatory).

Aye Cappy's can be marked as relevant continuously as long as he is on daily and chats on it :).

Though we should not say a rule is bad due to one user.

For example you bumped like 5 threads NO one really cared about or commented on. That is in my opinion meaningless forum spam. They take up space of actual threads that are relevant.

Gravedigging should be avoided at times, but definitely it is not something to make a rule of.

I agree. I read through old posts just to get an idea about the evolution of PG. Sometimes a dead post may not have been relevant at the time, but can be relevant to a current situation.

Gravedigging for spam purposes should be frowned upon, but not always entirely unjustified.

I have wished sometimes gravedigging were more frequent inside jokes and references to past articles are made often and it takes hours sometimes to find it.

I think you can post the link to the article instead of bumping.
