Some of the ranks, such as military type ranks, offer to gain MORE than the 20 points you need to rank up.
Example:
- Black Death (5 points)
- Transport Immigrants (5 points)
- Defeat NPCs (10 Points)
- Defeat Enemies (5 Points)
- Defeat NPC (3 Points)
Points needed for a rank up: 20
Points up for grabs: 28
Then you think to yourself, if I do this extra mission that gives 8 more points, it will transfer to the NEXT rank and I will have 28 points there. Then I don't have to do all in the next rank. Well, that isn't the case, that extra mission you did was for nothing because it goes to 20. Also, there is one mission for Nobles that gives 11 points out of the 3 mission you do, WHY??

The why is simple - it provides the candidate a choice of how he/she will attain the loyalty points to achieve the rank. For example, if you do not have voodoo for certain points, you can plunder npcs instead. This makes it easier to rank up rather than you MUST do everything on the list.

Well that's until you make to to the noble ranks. You have to complete everything to level up.

Originally, I thought doing extra things at Military ranks means I don't have to do everything in the noble ranks. It is kinda missleading.

What would make you think that?

Why would you not? If you earned the ranks, you should be able to keep them.

One thing could be if you do the extra stuff then it may make you have to do less missions further down. Like if you have two missions for increasing influence, but they aren't needed to reach 40 loyalty points or whatever, you can do them for extra points later down the road.
