I feel that the missions related to ranking up in your nation, and even just switching a nation are very war related.
There should be an option for people who do not wish to attack other players, to be able to complete these.
If your role is a peaceful trader, the you should be able to do missions related to trading.

Not on board with this. Prestige (at least back then) was gained by carrying out tasks for your nation. PG helps newer players by giving them a goal to work towards to and simultaneously attacking the enemy of their nation. I'm a merchant but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't have to do what everyone else has done to rank up!!!

Could be just defensive/ offensive mission option. Defensive would be to boost our nation, offensive to hinder enemy nation.

I disagree with this. I think it is a good thing that these missions are war related. If you're not willing to kill and bleed for your nation, you don't deserve to rise in the rank. Make enemies as you go, THAT'S the real price to pay.

Bigtea, you are very active in the suggestions forum and this is to be encouraged.
However this is your worst suggestion yet!

definitely -1. it would be really easy to just accumulate money and rank up that way. with war related requirements, it makes more balanced opportunities for players to rank up on. not only does it give varied opportunities, it forces people to learn how to play multiple ways

you can pass them relatively easy with NPC fleets till the rank of marqueise but if you do it right and play your cards right you won't make enemy in fact you will make friends...

i agree. even if you choose to attack players, just a simple message to them saying it was for a mission is usually enough for them to understand. that is how i completed my missions and not a single player i attacked was mad or retaliated. if they didn't want to be attacked, i simply didn't attack them and moved onto someone else. (no, this was not arranging battles, nor should you try to arrange battles. what i am saying is find someone on the plunder screen already and shoot them a message beforehand to make sure they won't retaliate if you attack)

I passed all missions for two of my countries and those missions brought me friends and like you said it's relatively easy if you msg target before attacking most players who are on plunder will allowe you to attack for mission as they know how had they can be but if you go and cast voodoo before letting them know about situation then yes they will fight back. And as it is said it is not arranging battle it is just informing peole and explaning situation. If you are afraid to ask them yourself ask guild leader or some of the veterans to msg them on your behalf. 99% people here is normal and will help they will even advise you about things which you are not aware of
