I was thinking of just #5 in that article, the others don't matter or are already there.

How would this work, players that prefer pirating, could give gold to the guild, and when they lose a ship or take damage, the guild gives them back some of it. Not full, maybe 60-80% of what they originally invested, but you get my point.
Saving money for the bad days.

A similar insurance system for traders would be nice too. Not cargo, since it's too cheap to matter, but ships would be nice. It would allow for higher level trader ships for a lower risk.

This can already be accomplished in the nation page through your treasury. Voting should occur to see if there is sufficient interest in this idea, then the law can be voted upon. Then the King or Treasurer can use the nation's tax revenues to give gold to those who are plundered if they so determine, or there is a consensus of nation members that vote to give the player gold from the treasury to make up for what was lost during the attack. Unless the player requesting reimbursement was the one who started the mess in the first place is how we usually work it.

Guild, not nation. It matters. Mainly because in a guild, as a member you can choose whether to contribute or not, stay or leave. In a nation, a lot of those are simply not options, but laws, which come with penalties.

It's interesting to see how guild things interact with national laws. When Guild Banks are implemented can't the guild decide to just send you money afterwards? That way it won't interfere with a law your nation might have. And if you're a pirate then tough luck because pirates don't have insurance, just withdraw from your buried treasure. I'm sitting on the fence about this one.

Perhaps a guild could "skim" a % (variable) of members plunder winnings and build up a fund used to reward promotions within a guild, or assist wounded members.

Also it could nurse new members along in their first few days.
Lots of uses that a guild should be able to do as a team if if it were possible.
Hoping these new changes will allow some sort of way to accomplish this.

I think this idea has merit. It would be a little similar to buried treasure. You put up a specific amount you wish to donate to the "fund" and its removed from your account. And then only the guild leader can award it to the person in need.

Private Banks made this irrelevant.

Disapprove.

I don't think this is necessary today given the other avenues that exist. -1
