Bump!

I see this as something that could/should be added to the IC Extension update. Some good thoughts in here so far.

I want a sea turtle or a crocodile or a Dungeness crab. I don't want fancy bonuses like +plunder gold, I just want to see a picture of my awesome pet and choose coloring/shell pattern and get helpful notifications from my buddy Sir Cuddles the vicious snapping turtle. The notifications on the top bar in red that say "(New Guild Discussion)" and "(New Present)" would be so much cooler if presented by your very own pet!

I think it's very important that new players immediately get the chance to choose their pet type and color (through missions). It would be a super effective way to catch new player's attention with a more graphical, less text-like interface!

I disagree with Dungeness. I'm not a fan of "content without purpose". A pet that's just there to keep you company and look cute wouls be just that. If pets give no advantages, and doesn't come with certain cost/requirements, I don't want them at all.

Strongly agree with Haron, no interest in pets or any other feature that does nothing.
Everything should have a purpose, and also everything should require some effort on the part of the player.

I think you are misunderstanding the purpose of the pet I mentioned. The purpose is to give the player 2 things: self-expression and a status-symbol. "pets give no advantage" is not a true statement because "advantage" in a game design sense of the word can mean almost anything. I know a few players IRL (all ladies actually) that started playing a certain famous game because they loved the idea of collecting cute pets which are purely cosmetic. They soon discovered they enjoyed all the other things the game had to offer. In the case of those players the advantage was the hook that first got them interested in the game.

If there is a challenge in acquiring the most rare pets then the player who succeeds has a great sense of accomplishment in their prized companion (especially if they are not tradeable). Players are currently paying Millions of gold for useless collector ships (low ship id#s), I'm 100% confident many players will be interested in collecting a super rare parrot with unique coloring to show off. I've wanted a parrot companion since I discovered Pirates Glory- just look at my profile pic.

No, I think I actually understood what "purpose" you suggested. I simply disagree that such a "purpose" is a good idea! :-)

Hawk - Eliminate someone else's pet, the carcass delivered promptly to your doorstep. (With the exception of the benevolent donkey.) :parrot

Mine has already been eliminating parrots for ages. I fear this is why they are not common amongst the pirates of Avonmora :P

Why not add a dragon at this point? Heck, add Leviathan and Kraken as well.

Leviathan can be activated every 2 days to delevel a ship.

Kraken every 1 day to damage a ship.

Dragon, deletes the player account.

BUMP. Fun Idea, I think more discussion from some newer players could be good.

Of course this should come after any Ship Abilities or Flag Ships. If ever....

Bump as this was a nice idea. I know the efforts are now directed to different improvements but still this one was cool :)
