Guluere, I think this is one of your more interesting suggestions, and it's too bad the thread is being hijacked. Also, in my thread "Wars and Blockades" I suggested another part ports can play in wars, and I'm not sure your suggestion and mine could work together. It's possible they could, though.

Anyway: I think some more options for ports are a good idea, including some way to attack them. I would prefer such an attack to be conducted with fleets, though, not "armies". As for these "sectors" with valuable buildings - it may have something to it. It needs work, though. And are you sure people should control them directly? Perhaps having them controlled by the port owning nation would be a better idea? As for what such buildings should do, I guess there are several possibilities. But the fact that both ports and nations can change hands must be taken into consideration for this.

Summary: More options for ports, including as way to attack them: Good idea. The idea needs more work, though, in my opinion.

The use of hiring population to protect a piece of land is so that even the population can effect it, lets take a look at a Pania, and you can see a low amount of population, so why not the power to transport population to port and use them to attack/defend. This means that war will indeed actually happen in ports and not just one part of a port, more then one can happen in a port.

I believe the Devs have express interest in developing land battles. It's a long ways down the pike with a considerable list ahead of it that the Devs want to develop.
There is a thread somewhere it was mentioned I'm sure :?:
