Fleet recall

Postby Ace trucker » Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:19 pm

Having just sent a fleet on a trade route to the wrong location again, wasting lots of ships on way too long a journey. Thereby wasting time and losing profit. I'm, thinking that a new VooDoo card to allow the recall of a fleet would be a good idea?

Or even just a warning message when you send a fleet with no cargo

The worst for me is changing the trade route. I terminate a trade route and instant travel the fleet, then forget to sell ship contents and send them off on a new trade route, decks still full of resources I could have sold.

A fleet recall would be good, so you can get the ships to turn around come back to port. This should take as long as they have already travelled.

not really realistic though is it? cuz ur not likely to catch up to ur ships if theyre travelling full speed(as they should be) and say turn around, matey, u gotta sell yo rum!

A good time to use Recall would be when, as Swampy says, you stop a trade route to add ship number 5 to a profitable fleet and forget to sell the iron so you can reload with tools. The end result is your first four ships make an extra round trip before they sell their cargo.
Yesterday I gave my all. Today I'll give more. Tomorrow, I'll take back what you took for granted.

A faster ship could catch up and give them new orders or you could send a message in other ways but isn't it just as unrealistic that a captain of a ship would stop in port and then set sail for the port he just came from with all the goods he bought from that same port?

Perhaps you should only be able to use the recall in the first 5 mins of the voyage, as the ship is navigating out of port someone gets a message to them.

I agree with the fleet recall every ship entering a port must fly signal flags to announce their arrival. Traditionally that is what your look out did when entering or leaving any port was to read port signal flags. that is why we have signal flags today. the crows nest was manned 24/7 except when the ship was docked. A recall fleet voodoo would not be a stretch. IT could read harbor master signals return to port. Can be limit set to 5 minutes on use.

Yes that's what I was talking about. I've seen it work well in other games with only a few minutes chance to recall a fleet or 'unit'. Signal flags are spot on as the communications medium
