Credit and Gold Prices for Voodoo/Ship Market

Postby Shadowood » Wed Jul 20, 2016 4:17 pm

I was thinking it might be nice if we could set a credit and/or gold price for things we sell in the markets.
Example - I want to sell a Bribe. I could list it for 20 Credits and/or $2.5mil gold. I say "and/or" as you would have the option to just set one or if you don't care what you get paid in then set both.

However, if you set both, once the first person bids in Credits or Gold the rest of the auction will be set in that currency.

Thoughts?
I don't fear death. I look forward to it with great anticipation. For then I will met God face to face and let him know that I stole his Man of War!!!

+1 would allow those without credits to participate more in the markets and better set a gold value on some cards.

This would make life more difficult on bankers who scratch out a few sheckles on credit/GC conversion sales as one of their few ways to make a bank profitable.

Perhaps we should also consider allowing banks to trade GB as well for a decent profit. Sort of like those 3rd party payday loan institutions that charge high fees for short term loans. Banks could buy GB and resell to those who do not want to shop for the cheapest GB price in regular port market ?
I don't know if anyone would use it and not being of a financial mind , I am unclear who also uses payday loans either but don't take the small ways banks can profit by removing their business model.

There must be a reason for people to have and use credits. Allowing everything to be traded in gc as well would remove that reason. Also, there will soon be implemented a stock market for credits, probably followed by a similar system for voodoo cards. And trade in parts of credits will be allowed. This will have some implications.

Bankers can make money from people using their banks on the stock markets.
Speculation in credits and voodoo change character.
Finding the right price for credits becomes easier (and for voodoo).
The game CAN take a tax from every trade (because of the credit cents).
If credits are taxed, there will be a slightly higher demand for credits to be bought with Real Money.

We need the credits to have exclusive areas of use, so there will be a demand for credits to be bought with Real Money. Also, this is needed for the credit stock market to work.

While the credits may seem unnecessary to us players, they are how the devs make money on this game. Altering their use must be done carefully.

I understand the perspective, I am simply for giving people access to the voodoo market without credits.

If the gold purchase amount was linked and made to be 10% more than average bank credit for gold offers, that would make the banks that offer this more competitive. In addition this would leave the balance skewed towards purchasing or using credits while giving access to those who don't at the same time. I think a tax on credits could be viewed poorly by players as a way by devs to have more credits purchased. I don't think that is the case, but it could be perceived that way.

I do think anything of this nature should wait until after the new market structures roll out though.
