Upcoming - Trade Route System Redesign

Ahoy all,

We are currently preparing a redesigned trade route system. Soon, it will become available and all new trade routes will be registered there. To provide seamless transition, the current system and the redesigned system will run in parallel for a long time. Ultimately, the current system will be removed entirely.

FUNCTIONALITY

The redesigned system will retain all current features plus:
-Ability to add unlimited destinations per trade route (a fair usage limit of 200 destinations will be placed).
-Ability to add different gold bar prices per destination (instead of trade route).
-Ability to save trade routes and then apply them on your fleets, when you want - if you want. This will allow easy change on fleets trade routes, without losing any settings that you might want to use later.
-Ability to duplicate saved plans and create new ones by tweaking them.

Extra addons:
-Ability to share your trade route plans with any other player.
-Ability to FOLLOW the trade route - as set in real time - of other players (as long as they allows you).

INTERFACE

The interface will be completely new as well. It will be self explanatory and easy to use and understand.

Will the redesign force routes? IE. If I list a route to be Aiora to Tzogos and the ship is in Tortuga, will to go to Aiora first since that is the first port listed or will it still go to the closest port.

I like the idea of being able to set individual gold bar prices for each destination in a route, and having virtually "unlimited" destinations. Maybe one thing to make it easier when saving routes and mass applying new routes to existing fleets is the ability to name your trade routes something i.e. "A-Th Tobacco Gathering" or something along those lines.

I don't like how you can just "FOLLOW" another player's trade routes. It makes it even easier to just be lazier while trading. One player can do the work on seeing the best route to take for the day or week and other people can profit off of it. I see potential in it being easier to light someone up if they aren't online and you know they are following their friend's trade route, but ultimately I think this addition to the functionality isn't a very good idea. Why should they just be able to slap a mindbar on, couple of counter-curses too, and be able to not login for 10 days and still be able to take the highest profit routes due to following another player? Poor design catering to laziness and a certain playstyle. Plantation update made traders have to take a more active role in their trades if they wanted to make the same profits as before. I feel this part of the redesign is counterintuitive to this point.

That's just my two cents but overall even though I don't trade that much, I look forward to the update. I also am interested in Dez's question. Maybe the update can also have the ability added to starting a trade route where the current port is not "Port 1" so the route automatically starts at the lowest Port# that is at your current port. (i.e. start a route from Tzogos as Port 1 and Tortuga as Port 2. My fleets are in Tortuga, so they automatically buy Tortuga production and head back to port 1 instead of heading to Tzogos empty and then beginning the route.)

I'm wondering what effect these changes will have upon 'Trade Master' reports?
