[Implemented] Voodoo Logs

Postby Lefty » Wed Apr 04, 2012 2:58 am

I would think a log of who has cast voodoo on you and what voodoo you have cast on others would be a good idea. Like the battle report. Food for thought

[Approved] Limited personal voodoo log

Postby Xanadu » Tue Jan 15, 2013 5:14 am

I think the option to keep a log of the voodoo curses that a player has cast and has had cast on them might be useful. Today I used a commandeer curse and the message I received was that I won a Large frigate but the ship never showed on my fleet list. The ship in question later showed up in another players fleet with the message that his crew fought off the commandeer. Now If there was a log of the curse cast, and on which ship that I could pull up I could find out if it was just a typo on my part or an actual bug.
This log could also be used to track curses cast on you by another player and give you a record of who cast them if the caster isn't hidden. This way curses that are not reported in the news section like "you found a small buried treasure" for example, could be recorded for those of us with less than photographic memories. Another use could be to analyze patterns in a players defenses, or if players used specific curses on me in certain situations. Then an adequate defense could be prepared before hand without wasting curses.
To limit server space used this could be limited to a certain number of curses, or one day. There could also be a toggle switch for the player so they did not have to use this feature if they thought it wasn't useful to them. This feature might be more trouble than it is worth for the programmers if ease of programming is an issue. I know that there already is the curses affecting me section but it does not show "instant curses". Feel free to shoot this down but I believe that it is an idea with some merit. Thank you for your time. Input by others is welcome.

The whole idea can't be rejected or we ignore a potential problem as if there is no chance that it will ever exist. Every voodoo cast should be recorded for a time in the caster's records as well as the target's. It could help to identify where the caster entered the wrong player ID on a destructive, disruptive or diminishing curse or where a player payed his debt with a beneficial casting of voodoo.
Yesterday I gave my all. Today I'll give more. Tomorrow, I'll take back what you took for granted.

Just thinking a little more on this and came up with another use. If you are accused by someone of casting voodoo on them and are innocent, the appropriate section of the log could be copy/pasted to the accuser and render you innocent. Guild masters could also have access to these logs. This would allow the master to be able to correctly decide what to do if there are accusations of wrong doing towards one of their guild. This could allow the master to deal with the issue with a little more knowledge of the whole story (I wish I had this feature with my kids most days).

I agree with the whole idea however not so keen on a master of your guild having access to the log. However the log that the master or other people in your guild may access is a voodoo log that has affected you or casted by the same number. Therefore i'm suggesting to create a voodoo log 1) is personal that you only can see this are the voodoo you casted on people and has been casted on you. and 2) a voodoo log which your guild master and member of your guild can see. This are voodoo you have casted on your co-guild members.

That is definitely a workable idea. Kind of like a private log for you and a public one for your whole guild could access. That could make it easier for the master to quash infighting in the guild. They would then have evidence they need to kick out trouble makers if they needed to keep peace in their guild. This might also make a player think twice before attacking a guild mate knowing that the whole guild will be able to see what they did.

Both personal voodoo log and public sound like good ideas. I think we even discussed this again in the past?
I especially like the public one as it can help in game policing against potential cheating; the more players involved in monitoring, the best.

Perhaps we could also make Enlightened vision also list part of the private log (thus, we will make this card more important while cheaters will think it twice before doing anything ;)

Since we are currently working on this (the private one / the public one will be reviewed again in the future) -it will be released today- feel free to suggest anything more. The final shape is still unknown even to me - so it is still open for suggestions.

Here is the current outline of features for version 1.0:

-It will log voodoo casted by you or voodoo that target you (in some way, if it target your ship, it will appear in your log).
-It will log only attempts where a card has been consumed.
-The entry will include time it happened as well as the message that has been produced (in case you were the target, the event message).
-Log entries will remain in database for 60 days.

In a future version, we can add this:
-Player will be able to choose whether or not he wants to share his log with his guild (Default choice will be not share).

Can we get a little button that would save that log on our PC? Or at least combine all pages for easier copying?
