Pirates Glory Updates and News #22

Postby Edwardteach » Mon Jul 06, 2020 12:51 am

Hello, PG Community!

It has been a month since the last post from our newsfeed, so now here is what has been going on!

Long time King of Spain, Lodswe, has stepped down from the throne after years of mostly peaceful rule. Lodswe has been a leading player in Pirates Glory for over 7 years. He has been King of Spain for 4 years. He is also the most successful Plantations Owner in the game and a major trader. He is stepping aside, maybe temporarily, and Cutpurse has replaced him on the throne. Mostly composed of peaceful traders, Spain has long been a very stable, port controlling nation, holding no less than five ports In Avonmora. Aside from a lengthy war with Isle of Mann last year, Lodswe rule in Spain has been remarkably tranquil. Most players that fly the Spanish flag reside in TUDOR. This is the Guild known as Traders Union Defense of Realm and has a style of play focused mainly on profitable trading and defense of merchant fleets. The new King of Spain, Cutpurse, has moved over to VUDU, which supports a much different style of play. It will be interesting to see how things develop in Spain, now that Lodswe has stepped down. He leaves Spain in a strong position with five ports, and both veterans and upcoming players on the nation's council. The new King Cutpurse has a lot of experience and is also a major trader and a Plantations expert.

Q&A with SilverShadow

SilverShadow is Pirate. Statistically speaking, he is the most successful Pirate in the game. With a current total of 24,361 Skirmish battles, with 22,518 of those resulting in wins (and plunder). He ranks number one in both these stats. He also has racked up over 2 Billion gold coin in plunder to date. He joined PG in October 2016 and has had a few aliases like Krosis, and QuikSilver. He was the leader of The Flying Gang. He was also a major player in Charles Vane’s Guild SIN, and most recently, he has joined VUDU. He has tried other styles of play but always returns to piracy. Here is what we learned from him:

Q: You have clearly compiled an impressive resume. What tips could you offer to up-and-coming Pirates looking to up their game?

A: This game requires patience in a lot of cases (or real money). I've built a pretty good lead in the skirmish stat. Anyone planning on catching me will have to have their skirmish tech maxed and hope like heck that I'll take a break once in a while. I thought I would never catch Tom Lowe, but he had other things to do and it allowed me to surpass him. Right now with skirmish tech I get 38 skirmishes a day. I can bank just over 200 if I don't use them right away. If I don't use them I lose them. So to stay profitable I try not to lose them. So, for up-and-coming pirates here is my two cents.

Find a guild and friends that are like minded - they don't have to be pirates, but they have to at least like raiding. Pirates would be best for friends because they'll be able to help with pirating advice.

You have to really like pirating - It's not hugely profitable and it takes work if you want to make big bucks. Pirate Nelson is a good example of big bucks pirating. Look at his activity lately. Wow. I have no interest in leaving pirating any time soon. It's just too much fun and less things to worry about. The nice thing is it's easy to leave pirating and come back.

Get a Hideout as soon as possible - Tech is important for a pirate. It's a grind, but it's worth it. I won't get into now. But max out the important ones (pm me if you want more details or ask around). It's worth it. With market trading now it's easier than ever to build a Hideout wherever you want.

There's a lot of different playing styles in pirating - What works for me might now work for you. But what works, works. All us pirates have different ideas for fleets and attributes. They work for each of us. So don't be afraid to try different things.

Choose your battles wisely - Don't bite off more than you can chew. Keep your fleets as small as possible to avoid big losses. Take your medicine and wait it out in most cases. Back and forth retaliation will just cost you more than it's worth.

Have fun - You'll have good days and bad days. If you're not having fun try something else.

Q: A quick check of the Plunder Balance honor Roll reveals that you have collected over 2 billion gold coin in profits from plundering. That puts you in fine company. What Ship improvements, Battle Techs, or Voodoo cards do you spend most your profits on and why?

Skirmish tech - #1. Pirate tech - #2. - worked on these first. Spanish Gal tech #3 - FG's with max SG are awesome. Just ask around. I've maxed out all the other battle tech otherwise. Of course, worth it.

I buy Trade Masters the most. A lot of players like the Spy Network, but I just need to know where those fleets are running. TMs are cheaper too. I will use SN in conjunction with TM to get full intel, though. Hostile Natives and Fugitive From Justice are mandatory of course. I like HNs. They're more work, but I can use them anytime as long as I know they should work. FFJs are used when I'm in a raid with friends. Master Craftsman are fun to play with. Level 60 maxed out FGs are fun to have (but expensive to fix if levied - more MC needed).

Q: Pirates Glory is always evolving, as new features are added, and the game develops. We’ve seen lots of discussion in game forums about many of these proposed modifications. What game features, if any, would you like to see modified, improved, or removed? What would you like to see done to facilitate a more effective and entertaining way to be a Pirate?

I like the game as it is. It's what I got used to playing. I got excited about a pirate only flagship when it was discussed, but I've been able to live without it. I don't mind the game evolving, but I don't need anything to change personally. I share my opinion now and then when changes are discussed so I at least have my say. I think we just need more players playing to make this game more fun. We need more merchants.

Q: What plans do you have for the future? What are your in-game goals, short term and long term? In which directions might your game be evolving?

My stats might be impressive, but Combat Ranking is my target and right now my rival is Anne Bonny. She's stolen #1 from me and I know it will be a fight to get it back. She has me beat in plundered ships and I think that is why she is number one. I have to work on that stat to get my title back. That Combat Ranking is important to me. I need goals in this game or it will get boring. I have my yearly goal of a billion plundered. I have my daily skirmish that I don't like to lose. I definitely need to step up my game with Pirate Nelson in the mix these days and Anne Bonny staying busy.

Hitting 25000 skirmish wins is obviously in my sights. Staying in the lead for skirmishes won't be too hard if I keep my skirmishing up. It will be interesting to see how high I can get on that stat. I would like to work on my battles won as well. That will require me to let my hounds loose. I know a lot of players would like to see that happen more frequently. I just keep doing what I'm doing for the most part.

I enjoy this community. I recently joined VUDU and I'm looking forward to making that fit. A pirate in their mix will be interesting. So far so good. I have great friends. Most merchants have accepted my skirmishing as part of their daily routine as well. I don't mind retaliation. Retaliation usually cost them more than it costs me and most merchants realize this. So a little donation to SS now and then is a small price to pay.

Thanks Edward for this Q&A. It was fun. Players can PM me anytime if they have questions. I might not always have the answers, but I usually know someone that does. I just thought of something that I would like to share. There was a day I thought 5000 skirmishes won was going to take forever. Haha. Anything is possible in this game. Last piece of advice - Don't back down. Keep plugging away. (spend a little money every once in a while and gets some credits to support the game)

How to be a WitchDoctor

Voodoo plays a powerful role in Pirates Glory. Each day, everyone has the opportunity to collect 5 voodoo curse cards. There are 90 different cards and it takes time to become an expert in using them. An initial exchange of Voodoo attacks between 2 players can escalate into a major war where ports are depopulated. possibly changing hands, and Guilds can be destroyed. Voodoo cards are the nuclear weapons in Pirates Glory and anyone can have them. They can be very cheap and nasty. They can also be very annoying.

WitchDoctors can cause a lot of trouble - they can be unbeatable because it is hard to retaliate, as they usually don’t have anything worth attacking, sailing few or no ships. All they need to do is trade Voodoo cards until they get the ones they want to use. The Credit, Ships, and Voodoo Card markets can supply a good WitchDoctor with a reasonably steady income. WitchDoctors can also work in secret, as mercenaries, casting Voodoo under contract. Even if they are identified the extent of their activities or their paymasters remain hidden.

Voodoo amateurs get into trouble easily, especially traders. They tend to get upset when they are attacked and sometimes respond out of proportion - assassinating officers, destroying trade routes etc. They usually get voodoo casts in retaliation, which can escalate the situation. Then they often complain in the forums about how they have been unfairly treated and are losing gold. What goes around comes around. Adapting the style of play associated with being a WitchDoctor can be risky, but rewarding. Explore it at your own risk.

Thank you for taking a read. See ya soon with more updates.

Do you think promoting on how to be a witch doctor is appropriate considering this from the game admin/owner?

Witch Doctors have always been a problem in the game. A lot of problems arise from this. What is most annoying here in my opinion, is that you are unable to defend against them. Therefore we might need to issue some changes here.
