Hello, PBBG Community!
I am proud to bring you more news and events of the PBBG game called Pirates Glory.
Our previous news and update can be found here:

It has been a month since the last post from our newsfeed, so now here is what has been going on!

Plantation Wars

There has been a lot of outrage recently over the upheaval in Plantations operations in the recently captured Ports. The new owners have tried to increase their port revenue in all the ways open to them - not always successfully. A tremendous amount of investment and management over months and years has been destroyed in an instant.

Plantations are a controversial aspect of Pirates Glory. Each port has Plantations that can be operated to generate resources - Rum, Cotton, Tobacco, etc. These are popular because they can earn large amounts of gold every day normally risk free for players and Port owners.

The Nations that control ports benefit hugely from Plantations because of fees charged for Operating Permits and the daily acre rental income. The Plantation owners want to pay the least amount possible. There is a limit to the number of Acres available for Plantations so the prices can spike according to demand.

Some Nations are devious and surreptitiously bid up the price which Plantation owners have to pay in order to boost their own profit. Timing is everything - Nation members get good rates when the price goes down and everyone else gets the inflated high rates at other times.

One Nation, in particular, has pushed the envelope in pricing for the Operating Permits. These Permits are absolutely necessary, you cannot operate a Plantation without one. They are good for 90 days and must be renewed upon expiration. The ports taken over by the emergent Nation of Hellas have seen massive spikes in Permit prices. PGPromo Team reached out Hellas leadership for comment on this subject.

The Privateer Feniks had this to say about their government’s perspective:

“There has been a lot of talk about Hellas OP rates. We have heard “It’s extortion”, it is causing “upheaval” in the plantation markets and received outright threats. Actually, there is nothing further from the truth. Currently in Avonmora there are 23 plantations which account for 53 percent of the acres currently available in all of Avonmora. Most nations have a set rate, Tokelau for example, the rate for an Operating permission is fixed very low. 1 gigantic plantation takes up 2/3 of the acres. That leaves few acres available for someone who only wants a 1000 acre plantation. Why should the 1000 acre plantation pay the same as the 20,000 acre plantation.

We are trying to make sure that there are more opportunities for other players by increasing the cost to the large landowners in the only way available - a variable Operating Permission on a per acre basis. We allow for those who have smaller and less developed plantations to pay a lower rate than those who have larger developed plantations.”

Not everyone is pleased with the popularity of Plantations, and some players have expressed disappointment at the direction the Plantations have taken. Some have commented they feel Plantations actually detract from the game.

Many improvements have been discussed by the PGDev Team with the intent to create more interaction between Ports, Plantations, and Ships visiting the Ports.

- Plantation forts attacking ships that are in their port.
- Fleets attacking Plantations and stealing resources, gold or workers
- Plantations attacking nearby Plantations defended by forts causing damage or stealing resources.
- Cannon and gun factories, sail makers, ship building supplies etc.
- Players creating special items in their custom factories to sell to other players and nations.

In general players being able to create and trade their own resources is a great feature of the game, and should be developed into more detailed operations like custom built cargo and supplies. Some players see Plantations as a shelter, a haven, where a player can check in every day or so and avoid the rest of the game. There should be some risk not just idly accumulating gold.

On the lighter side, PGPromo Team caught up with the notorious Pirate Nelson in a local Tavern and had a chance for a few words. Pirate Nelson has been around since the start of Pirates Glory in various guises and has always been controversial - liked by those who know him, feared by those he steals from.

Q: What is good about Pirates Glory at the moment ?

A: Well that be a good question. Me personally I would say the amount of fine detail there be to everything. The developers have certainly done a great job in updating the game whilst keeping a balance for both us putrid Pirates and the merchants.

Q: Do you have any favorite players ?

A: Let’s see, most in the game have heard of the notorious Black Sparrow. He be the current leader of Ravenlocke Brethren and a long time ago the first ever guild The Pirate Kings. However to me, he is probably one of the most strategic players in the game. He does not have almost infinite resources unlike the next player, but when he strikes whoever is on the receiving end is in a lot of danger.

Q: As a solo pirate what is your most profitable target for raiding ?

A: Well first of all, good sir, as a solo pirate I find anything goes as long as I can make a few gold coins from it! I tend to look for someone that has high level tails - the last ship in the fleet and a good amount of ships - more than 200; that way when I attack I gain not only a percentage of their purse at hand I also gain the gold from their ship losing a level! I think that I have said enough - now please leave me to my grog

We will wrap-up this edition with a story of gossip and slander.

Twas overheard in Port Tavern, a libelous local bilge rat spinning yarns, and casting Pirate Tales like they were going out of style. The target of this disparaging rant was the well known Naval Officer and Privateer - Edward Teach. It is not known at this time the exact nature of these fabrications, or whether or not any of them are actually true. What we do know is that Teach, who once held north of 192M fame, has recently been reduced to around 40M fame (at the time of this publication).

The PGPromo Team tried to catch up with Edward, down on the docks, as he boarded one of his many Battleships. When asked for a comment, it was reported that he summarily kicked a barrel of gunpowder (splintering his wooden peg leg in the process) and then let loose with a tirade of profanity that we cannot, in good conscious, reprint here. Witnesses say that he then proceeded to lumber aboard his ship muttering something about, “Shiver me timbers, and blast your Pirate Tales…”

PGPromo Team would like to thank Feniks and Pirate Nelson for their contributions to this edition of “ Pirates Glory Updates and News”.
