New Nation of Hellas Making a Splash in Avonmora
The map of Avonmora looks a lot different these days. There have been quite a few changes. Gone are Aussie flags and the Pirate controlled port of Psaral. Well, Psaral is still there, but it is now controlled by a new nation called Hellas. Born out of a merger between Pirates, and former IoM players from Australia, Hellas has risen to control no less than four ports. I addition to Psaral, their blue and white banner flies over St. Martins, Seaglory, and Akrotiri. The players coming together to form this new nation include the Pirates William One Eye and Charles Vane, and from Australia, Feniks and Banger (former IoM giants). The nation of Hellas has also formed a new Guild called Royal Hellas Navy. When the PGPromo Team contacted the leaders of Hellas for a comment, this is the statement we received:
“Hellas and the Royal Hellas Navy were brought together to create even more diversity on the map. Several veterans and new players alike aligned to create a force willing to engage in new tactics, strategies, and imaginative operations in order to increase both entertainment and drive for the current player base, and themselves.
Whether it be Plantations, Trade, Banking, Privateering, Plunder and Pirates, we will examine each, experiment with new tactics, develop new styles of play, and train the next generation of Captains no matter what style and path they choose. It was not a merger of nations nor hostile acts that brought us together, simply a desire to bring some life back into Avonmora.”
The PGPromo Team also reached out to Lachlan, long time leader of Australia, to get his view point on some of these developments. Here’s what he had to say:
“During the brief period of a few months Feniks and Banger helped Australia secure 3 ports out of the 21 in Avonmora. This was an unprecedented level of economic prosperity in Australia, as our daily income went from about 100k gold coins to well over half a million in just a few weeks. Alas, this new golden age of Australia was not to last. Suddenly, in just a few days, Australia went from 3 ports to zero with Banger and Feniks leaving Australia. Now Hellas (Greece) has all of the previously Australian ports. With a strong group of dedicated players including Feniks and Banger this nation had risen to holding 4 ports in a stunning amount of time.
This nation even has its own guild specifically for its citizen players, which only the US also has. With an experienced player like William One Eye leading this nation they are sure to seize more ports from older more established nations like Tokelau, Spain and the US. As for how it will affect Australia, we can only hope that one of these great nations will have a moment of weakness so we can seize a port and once again become a powerhouse like in our heyday.”
In a related development, we have seen the formation of another new Guild called Betrayed (or 4Hire). This Mercenary Guild was created by Captain Foxy (aka Clockwork) who was briefly involved in the formation of Hellas. Coming from the decimated nation of St. Kitts, Foxy originally teamed up Charles Vane with the idea of forming a new nation. Apparently, there was some disagreement between Captain Foxy and some of the other founders of Hellas. Foxy subsequently left Royal Hellas Navy to form Betrayed. He does, however, still fly the flag of Hellas. We caught up with Captain Foxy in the Tavern and this is what we found out:
Q: The formation and rise of Hellas was a fairly abrupt occurrence. What lead you to join forces with Vane?
A: “Me and Vane originally banded together to make a nation much different from the last nation that we made together. The aims were to bring some old IoM members and some outside players into the fold.“
Q: When Australia's ports were ceded to Hellas, how did that effect the alliance?
A: “Shortly after, it seems that I was expelled from Royal Hellas Navy on suspicion of my history of espionage, and ties with the Mercenary Guild MERC. I have no doubt that Australia will rise again in the future. Hellas I believe would support that, even without my say.”
Q: You have attracted quite a few players to join Betrayed. Some of them are pretty noteworthy characters. What are your plans for the Guild going forward?
A:”Going forward, i plan to make Betrayed a guild that challenges and competes with MERC. I originally learned my mercenary path from them, as they were one of my first guilds. With what they taught me, I'm sure I'll be able to make Betrayed a reputable contractor for hire.”
So, it should be interesting to see what develops in the wake of this salty bit of drama. Stay tuned.
And Finally, Pirates Glory is pleased welcome back legendary player Phoenix Knight. He is returning after a lengthy absence from the game. We caught up with him at the new 4Hire Mercenary Guild. He had this to say about his return:
Q: Welcome Phoenix Knight, how does it feel to be back?
A: "Well, staying away was hard. I was itching to get back and get into some action. Truly connecting with people again is a blast. I have missed many new updates that I am still slowly catching up. Rebuilding again will be an adventure I look forward to."
Q: So, what are your plans going forward?
A: "My original plan on my return was to do some on and off battle and chill out and eventually join Tokelau and a mentoring guild. I don’t plan on returning as big as I used to be but I would like to coach a new generation eventually. For now contract to hire seems like enough fun to keep me busy at my own pace until I am ready for more active role in the game again."
