Fantasy Draft V Voting Poll!

Ok you salty seas dogs, the draft now shift to you.. The spectators. I hope you enjoyed this latest installment of the draft. I really think the captains did well and the teams are very well balanced (IMO). So with that, here are the captains "Blurbs" about their teams. Please vote for who you think has the best team, not just the team you are on, if you were picked. Captain Jack will make sure there are no "fake" accounts so don't worry about that.

In Draft Order:

Yosarian:
1. Stan Rogers
2. Lodswe
3. Charles Vane
4. The Love Tiger
5. Noffin
6. Getsum
7. Redbard
8. Cogz
9. Slovich
10. Cannonball

What is the best. Is it to win the most attacks over the course of a day/week/month? Is it to have the biggest voodoo chest and have the ability to take down any single player? Is it to have the most comments or cause the biggest uproar on the forum posts? If these are your definitions of being the best or how you define having the strongest team then do not vote for me as this is not what this team does.

You will rarely see us racking up 100’s of attacks on a plunder board. We do not often take to the forums to plead our case or incite vigorous debate. No, instead we generally keep our heads down and continually get stronger and better.

Wealth matters. Yes, War fleets can attack merchants and Witch Doctors can wreak havoc but rarely will you see players in those roles be able to become more than what they are because in order to advance in the game in the areas of Plantations, Banks, Gold Mines and general new technology as well as whatever comes next you need to have deep pockets, a mechanism for generating continued wealth and a passion for the game the allows you to spend the time investigating the nuances of the game until they are mastered.

Team Yosarian represents that identity. Not just guild leaders but guild makers. Players who have been party to the rise and fall and sometimes rise again of nations. Players who have persevered through it all and become stronger by each step. We are not externally vocal but work tirelessly within our groups to share knowledge and make the group stronger. In many cases we are or have been the engines that drive port influence and enable port retention. These are the people who dive into a new technology and have the determination to stay with it until it is mastered and maxed out. Most important, we have the financial stability to pivot our game play as the need arises to face new challenges, investigate new options or simply follow a whim.

We are not a team that is going anywhere, we were here yesterday, we are here today and we will be here tomorrow and we will be better and stronger

Vote for team Yosarian

Caladan:
1. Captain DaVinci
2. Jim Hawkins
3. Danik
4. Meliva
5. Banger
6. Damn the Torpedos
7. JB Duke
8. Anne Bonny
9. Joker
10. Aloeth Bowstringer

First off I would like to thank Shadowood for picking me as a captain in this draft, and for organizing yet another fun draft. And also to the other captains, for making this an interesting draft.

Before I started thinking about which players i wanted on my team, I needed to decide what kind of team i wanted. I quickly decided that I wanted an all-round team, one that can handle every aspect of the game.
And since I am a big soccer fan, I decided to assemble the team as a soccer team. Why not have some fun ehile i'm at it

Since a soccer team has 11 players, I will have to put myself as the goalie lol

Defenders:

Jim hawkins: Former king of Barbados and Spain. The Mountain. Probably
richer than the Spanish treasury. Protector of ATC and Spain.
He may have put his aggressive days behind him, but poke
him and you will quickly regret it

Meliva: She is the captain of my team. As witty as she is kind, always
willing to help, both new and old players. A great motivator,
moderator and a math wiz. A natural captain of any team.

CDV: The TITAN! None above, none beside! Ruler of 21 nations, as
well as the seas. One of few players that have mastered all
aspects of the game. No.1 in ship count, total battles and
battles won.
He is simply in anleague of his own.

Aloeth: Has alreadybecome duke/duchess of Tokelau, a successful
trader, and eager to learn all aspects of the game.
This lass truly have what it takes to become a great player!

Midfield:

Danik: Has a tongue as sharp as his mind is clever. An inspiration to
most of us, tenacious in everything he does. The calm in the
chaos. The lord of donkeys!

JB Duke: Extremely loyal to his guild and nation, a real team player, a
morale booster when needed.

AnneBonny: Already her second draft pick. As talented as she is ambitious.
Fearless. has a real appetite for learning.
She will be a force to be reckoned with!

Joker: An out of the box thinker, creative, gathers information like
none other. He is always supportive to his friends and he has
mentored many new players.

Attackers:

Banger: Scourge of the seas, prince of UK. A name worth remembering
if you're into self preservation. Covers all ports. A predator
who fights like a demon on steroids.

DTT: Former king of Midway, Egypt and St.Kitts.
Has been a pirate and a Zomb(ie), now a very successful
trader. An ancient beast you do not want to awaken.

While choosin my team I have focused on both individual strenght/character and their ability to work as a team. This team would be able to wage, fund and endure anything, be it a war or ruling a port owning nation.
This is a team I would be proud to be part of!

May the best team win

Caladan

Psychodad:
1. Sir Henry Morgan
2. PHX
3. The Accountant
4. Dmanwuzhere
5. Graythorn
6. DezNuts
7. Black King Leoric
8. Grimrock
9. Medici
10. Captain Ron

I am grateful and honored to have been chosen by Shadowood to be one of Captains in this event. I would like to thank him for the effort involved in organizing the Fantasy Draft, it is, without a doubt, the best community building event in Avonmorra.

As with all drafts, it can be very frustrating to have picks taken out of circulation early. However, I am pleased that those who ended up on my list were my first choices.

Without further ado, let me explain the brilliance of the collection presented as Psychodad’s Dream Team!

First up is the bulwark of any team that hopes to have depth, wisdom and experience as it’s central pillar, Sir Henry Morgan is the epitome of all of those. I very rarely embark on a new endeavor without researching what or how His Lordship would plan and execute. When I fail to do so, often I find the outcome less than desirable. I am extremely fortunate to have been able to take him off the table before my competition did.

Next up is PhoenixKnight, I was lucky enough to have sailed with him when he was a member of ATC and I found his wisdom and comradery to be so helpful in my early days. He moved on from ATC to bigger challenges and has prospered in all. He is still one to be counted on for good counsel and assistance, a ferocious enemy and tenacious friend.

The Accountant, true to his name very precise and relentless in his gameplay. I am leery of being in a port with an Accountant fleet as you can be sure that if he sets his sights on you, it most often ends badly. He sails solid well-rounded fleets that are hard if not impossible to beat and does so with stoic and deadly efficiency. A warfighter few can parallel.

Dmanwuzhere. This guy is a SOB of the highest order. Few players, in recent memory (therapy is helping me to block out the older memories) have given so much grief and caused more teeth grinding and stress diarrhea than Dmanwuzhere. I truly hate him, so very, very much. Which is why he is such an important member of this team. If he’s going to be an insufferable prick, I want him pointed out at others and not at me. Because the reason he is so damned annoying is because he so effing good at what he does. What an flower!

Out of the mists comes Graythorn…an old player who has weathered the changes and storms in the game and stayed with it. Perhaps not as active as some of my other picks, but being a bit of an old dog myself, I value the wisdom and expertise that comes from surviving for so long. Graythorn has sailed the Avonmora Seas since day 75, he was and will be a force to be reckoned with.

DezNutz is an intelligent player, well versed in all aspects of the game. He has demonstrated in depth knowledge of the variations of gameplay, when and how to use voodoo (and perhaps more important, when not to). He was the esteemed Captain of the Fantasy Draft IV winning team so is a good judge of character and ability. Perhaps most important to me, he has always been willing to extend a helping hand to his comrades and can always be counted on when it matters.

Black King Leoric, a younger player who has achieved many milestones in a brief time. He shot up the ranks with The United Kingdom, to become the governor of strategically important port of Gorumn and continues to conquer new milestones. Enthusiastic and driven to achieve, I have no doubt we have only begun to see what he is capable of.

Grimrock Litless is another player who I have sailed with at one point in the game and while GR’s achievements may be less than other members of my team, I have come to appreciate the fervor and commitment to the game. As time goes on and experience provides a forge to temper his metal, Grimrock Litless is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Medici has the stated objective of becoming a financial cornerstone of the game. Choosing to stay above the fray and providing financial assistance to all with no regard for politics or agenda. While not as exciting as engaging in thousands of battles, stealing ships and other riskier adventures, being the guy with the money is absolutely a valid and lucrative way to achieve greatness. Every enterprise needs funding, so every team needs Medici!

Rookie picks are so hard. Unless you have personal knowledge or experience with a new player, it’s often difficult to pick them out of a crowd. Usually too early in their career to see overt achievements and often they are floundering as new players are bound to do. Captain Ron seems to have overcome that and stepped to the forefront of his class. He has achieved a hefty amount of fame and retained it over time. I see great things for Captain Ron in the future and am happy to have him on Team Psychodad!

Cutpurse:
1. Shadowood
2. Tom Lowe
3. trixikilikili
4. Admiral Nelson
5. Kangaroo
6. Sir Agnar of Audun
7. Anomander Rake
8. Silver Shadow
9. LuckyDube
10. CGoody

firstly, i would like to thank shadowood for organizing yet another great event. it was pleasure observing, and being part of three previous drafts, and i am honored to have been chosen to be one of the captains in this draft. i cannot think a better way of getting to know other community members than this.

as for progress of the draft itself, at first i felt it to be hard, seeing names on my pre-made list being called one by one, before my turn was up. but i quickly realised that i need not worry of such - there was plenty of material to choose from, even if teams were stretched to include more members. many good men and women were left unpicked - perhaps their turn comes on future drafts.
now to present our team, and my reasoning behind why i believe we deserve your vote. i will not go on details about our individuals, as i feel we need not to make noise of ourselves - a quick look on leaderboards, statistics, rankings and port battles will tell who we are. instead i will present to you main focuses, that our team was built around:

balance is what i had in mind when putting our team together - every way of playing this game need to be mastered, in order to be able to overcome any challenge other teams would present us with. so i picked masters and experts to cover all aspects of gameplay, to ensure our team has no weaknesses, that teams biased towards certain style of play might have. if there is something our team cannot do, it simply is not worth doing.

activity is what matters the most - no matter if one holds billion or more coins in a bank, if one is a known voodoo-lord, nor whether one was notorious and skilled warlord back in ancient times, when nations like barbados filled the map of avonmora - sure all these are worthy achievements, and one deserves to be remembered from such, but none of that will not assist team in any way, if one is not around, and willing to put them to use.

willingness brings me to our next strength: willingness to expend resources to aid and support fellow teammates - this can never be emphasised enough. it has proven to be core of any successful guild, and the key to survival in avonmora, which may appear as a cold, harsh place at times. i fully trust our team - should one be in need for help, others would not turn a blind eye.

wealth is what matters - and our team is very skilled, whether it is about creating it, putting it to good use, or relieving others of theirs. we leave no stone stone unturned, when it comes to obtaining it - be it from trading goods, transactions on voodoo-, ships- or from credit markets, plantations, goldsmiths, banking, plunderboards, skirmishes, we get our share of everything.

strength, be it defined as large, strong warships, sizeable voodoo chests, ability to put them to use, or all of the above, is not something our team lacks. should there be war waged upon us, putting all this quickly to use, would leave our opponents very little room to breathe. should such war stretch to lengthy one, our healthy reserves, and skills to adapt and make do with less gives us the survival ability similar of cockroach, allowing our team to come out on top in the end.

community: while not exactly connected to team, i will mention few words of our team interaction with rest of the pg community - as we cover every aspect of gameplay, not only we supply the world with goods, we are guaranteed to provide activity and action, to ensure no day will be dull in avonmora. and many of us are, or have been in training guild, expending our time and resources, ensuring next generation will be smarter and stronger than previous.

when you look at our team, you see different generations, ranging from veterans like tom, to newcomers we have two amongst us. this i believe reflects our team well - we are the past, present, and the future of pirates glory! should my presentation make you feel same way, do consider casting your vote on our team.

-sincerely, cutpurse

William One Eye:
1. Black Sparrow
2. Pulpop
3. Feniks
4. Dejanira
5. xXMontyXx
6. JuicyP
7. Dark Wolfie
8. Lana
9. El Baboso
10. Alkobra

Have a seat mates and polish up ye cannon balls,
I shall tell you about team William One Eye.

There be a One Eyed man, some say he be brilliant, some say he be crazy.
Perhaps, he is just not right in the head. Is he fearless, or lacking wits, is he good or just lucky. Perhaps we will never know. How than would such a man assemble a team of players. He then have to put together the saltiest collection of stubborn mariners ever to be collected. Each one battered from years at sea. Each one hardened by the cruelness of the world. These be the ones that toss the white flag into the sea, as it is to them a meaningless piece of cloth, because surrender is not an option or even something they can fathom. They would be those willing to hold fast for any challenge and fight to the bitter end.

I present to you team William One Eye

Should you anger us this is what shall come to pass.

One day you go to the privy, when you return Black Sparrow has taken your ships, all of them. He barely even broke a sweat. He has returned our tavern and is having a dram of rum with One Eye.

You are upset, but remember you have plenty of coin saved up. You think to yourself its not really that bad, I will just buy new ships and rebuild. All is seeming better until you find out Pulpop has managed to cut your funds off, and is costing you double your normal earnings on a daily basis.

You return home, and it is gone, as Feniks has taken your port for the glory of the UK, for no reason other than you angered us. It does not look like he has any intention of giving it back.

Dejanira, slaps you around with some time spirals. Then she makes you listen to 3 different covers of mad world on repeat until you start to think the song was written about you, and whats happening to you, in this very moment. You to start to lose your mind.

You try to fight back but you just end up angering Monty.
Monty and Juicy team up and attack your entire guild.
Then they ask you for compensation for the voodoo they used. You are worried things could get worse and you try to pay, but Pulpop still has all your funds tied up. Juicy and Monty are saying mean things about you in the forums and it makes your lips quiver and tears well up in the corners of your eyes. You decide to hold back the tears, toughen up, argue your case in on the forums and look for players that will support you.

Wolfie and Lana get offended that you are trying to attack their team mates. They constantly manage to block and clear any incoming voodoo you cast and then blacklist and confuse you. They go to the forums and counter any attempt you make to get public support. Their arguments against you are shockingly valid. You begin to lose all hope.

Mean while, El Baboso and AlKobra are having a feeding Frenzy with your Guild mates fleets that are popping all over the place, from the voodoo Juicy and Monty are casting. Combined the four of them are relentless and things are looking pretty bleak.

If this is your idea of a good time, go ahead poke the bear and see what happens.

Or perhaps you would just prefer to sit down at our tavern and have some rum. Our house rum is delightfully smooth and strong. Want something special. If your pockets are very deep we might be able to find you something refined, a taste of history, a classic rum with as much character as it maker. Yes the one, the only, Sir Henry Morgans Finest. A couple of us have the connections to find you a bottle. Or Perhaps you want another rarity. The bottle may smell of turtles, but it tastes like pure piracy. It comes an unlabeled bottle with a small CV that was scratched on the bottom with a rock. I speak of the famous, Akrotiri pirate occupied rum, bottled by Charles Vanes pirate crew. A few of us know who has it and we might be able to track one of those down as well if the price is right.

As you sit back and enjoy your rum. We will put on Take me Home Country Road - the Toots and Maytals version. It is laid back and will put you in a good mood and it will make the rum taste even better. Relax,
we love a quiet afternoon telling tales and having a few drinks with our mates.

While you are here perhaps you would like to open an account at one of our many banks. Perhaps you would like some consultation on self defense, ship thieving, market investment advise. Maybe you would
like to talk somewhere a bit more private. Maybe you need to put a hit out on someone, or a guild, or an entire nation. We got you covered.
Better to be on the side holding the gun and we can help you with that.
Need protection, need us to lock you down and watch your back, we can handle that to. We are bold, we are skilled, we are ready, we are team William One Eye

Think you can steal from us, best us in combat, or outsmart us.
Give it yer best shot.

Good luck

PS. those cannon balls you polished are now useless.

Some really great blurbs by the captains. I really like how Caladan made his team like a sports team and how he described the roles, and Wills was the most entertaining to read-almost like a little story. Hoping the last blurb comes soon. A bit of a disadvantage not to have one from the start, but if nothing else gives him time to really make a good one.

Sorry for posting late...the real so often impedes what's really important! That being said, the best is often the last so here you go...

It has been determined that 3 days of voting was not enough. To ensure everyone gets a chance to vote voting was extended 2 additional days. Sunday will be the last day.

Thank you all and remind your guilds to vote!
