The new century starts at day 1701, though. There are 100 days in a century. So the first is days 1 through 100, the next is day 101 through 200, and so on :-)

No, the first day is zero... and after 24hrs it is 1... leastways, thats how years work...

Wrong. The first year was year 1. In 1901, they did the right thing, and celebrated the start of a new century. In 2000, a lot of people got this wrong, for some reason.

There's been a lot of debate, though. See for instance https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century.

Sorry Danik, that is incorrect. It is a common misconception. The point at which BC and AD meet is zero, but the year, a culmination of about 365 days, the begins at the point where BC and AD meet is called year 1.

Look at a metric or standard ruler. The inch or centimeter is a culmination of it's smaller measurements. Each is a inch/centimeter is block of measurement, just like a year. As you measure, even if you have not reached the the 1 inch/centimeter point, you are still within the first block of measurement, thus inch or centimeter 1 or in the sense of years and time, year 1.

Well, better safe than sorry - I will raise a glass both days to make certain I celebrate the new century on the correct day! :beer
