With right set up and with right techs you get ship equally fast as LMM and a ship whom can throw few punches that really hurt.

Guessing Galleons are easy to build & would not acquire a lot.

good cargo capacity
good cannon capacity
easy to build, easy to buy
cheaper than lmm
when you keep out of fleet not worth to commandeer
with spanish galleon tech lvl 14 or higher faster than lmm.
for some fleet setups also good as a tail.

No there not.

A good tail only has a ransom of 1,000 gold coins. You will find nearly (If not all) of my fleets, have a howker at a end.

A galleon is 6,000 gold coins per hit. Which can make all the difference in you getting zeroed.

Rather the enemy attack me 18 times to zero me, then 3 times to zero me.

If by cool kids, you mean the ones that like to get less ship value per credit, then yes.
