So what makes the price fluctuate as it does? is it when somebody sells a massive amount of bars to a port the price raises in the rest that have far less or what

When someone sells a ton of bg's it causes the price in that port to drop but then the rest will drop and that one will rise because of people buying and selling gb's along with transporting them between the ports

I cant see someone buying that many gold bars all at once to raise the price that high. I mean that had to cost that person a fortune when he could have spread it out between ports and got a much better deal

If you mass buy gb's there all the same price so you can take the cheapest port and buy 4000-5000 bg' (if Tere are enough and sell back. Good portion for profit (that's if I'm right)

Price rises and falls in each individual port based on available stock.
For every 25 bars sold by the port the price increases, every 25 bars bought by the port the price decreases.
As for someone buying that many bars, I have seen all the ports stock decrease lately and increase so who knows if they diversified or not. If someone wanted to buy mass quantity in one port I'm sure they considered the price being higher but perhaps they do not wish to transport them to their hideout for construction..

I don believe this to be true.
The price is based on every 25, there is no bulk deal.

But it doesnt : it's a fixed price escalator and that is that.
One of the unmentioned demands for gold bars is for storing wealth in warehouses : they are safe from OLOD and can be turned back into coin very quickly and with no turn cost. It has been suggested that this has replaced burying treasure as the pirates choice of storage, saving on turn investment and risk of loss.
