Natural Disasters!!

Hello Ladies and Germs!

Capt Jack just brought up the topic of Natural Disasters, that was implemented in the game by the looks of it back in 2012. Being newer to the game, I am curious if any of you old salty sea dogs have experience this game mechanic yet... as I have not, nor heard of it till now.?

Never heard of it before eitber nore seen it postex in the quarter master either. Looks like we bankers need to start selling natural disaster insurance.

Kind of wish I could see this implemented it would cause a disturbance in everyone's plans plus reduce the supplies from 2b+ down to reasonable lvl's

Bump!

Captain Jack, is this still something that will be coming. I see in the notes that it is tied to the newspaper. When the newspaper is launched will we start to get Natural Disasters?

-Drought (affects port production: Port production for this day is reduced, price may rise for the resource the port sells)
-Earthquake (affects port stocked selling resource: Any stocks of the selling resource is reduced, price may rise for the resource the port sells)
-Flood (affects port prices for resources bought by port: It may affect one or more buyable resources, the prices paid for this resource will rise which means that the port will pay extra)

-All natural disasters will be % based and up to 50%
-Price changes will be up to 25% and minimum change is +-1.
-A natural disaster may affect one or more ports in the same day (even all)
-All natural disasters will take place during the daily upkeep and they will be announced in the Quartermaster (they will be in the newspaper feature when it is launched)
-Natural disasters will start happening randomly from November 1. There will be 1 or more plague events affecting all ports (check changelog discussion for justification).


I would like to suggest the addition of a new one. Tsunami or Hurricane - 25% of ships at port or traveling to effected port will lose 5 levels. If your ship is level 5 or less, it will be lost to Davy Jones locker. (this event would help put more value into shipwrecking too)

-1 on your suggestion. That could literally sink hundreds of ships in a single instance. I could see it greatly effecting travel time or sending them to another port and pausing the route, but losing 5 levels is just ridiculous.

since most traderes are below lvl 5 that would wipe out 25% of your trade fleets. you don't have to be da Vinci to feel the sting of that.
variations with loss of HP also -1

but due to the destroyed harbor front the port is closed for one day (no traffic in or out) would be a nuisance. :)

I recall being hit twice by natural disasters a over a year may be 2 ago. Don't remember the details.

My number is high Maha. Perhaps 5%-10%. And this would be random. 1 Player would not lose 5%-10% of his entire fleet. It would be spread out over all players in port or traveling to...

massive randomness makes pretty good predictability :)
have 1 fleet of 5 ships in a disaster port and the chance that 1 ship or less is hit (5-10 % chance) is 25 to 50 percent if my math skills are still functioning.
with 100 fleets or 500 ships, you know that you loose 25 to 50 ships. the massive random chances transforms in a predictable outcome.
i would like to know how many ships visit the various ports. can that be traced from port tax income or something like that? or do i have to cast 14000 trademasters?
