There is no skill involved, it relies almost entirely on voodoo and the only real consequence, when all is said and done, is lost gold and wasted voodoo.
I am no martyr by any means. I have used the tools available to me, but I do believe something new needs to be infused into this.
PhoenixKnight is right, to many times a simple personal beef between two players draws in other people, guilds and Nations. I am guilty of it as well. I think the only real answer is a development of new game mechanics. I do not portend to be nearly smart enough to know in what form that should be, but I do know something is needed.
Seamanship, actual battle strategy, port blockades, port defense, and yes , even foot troops of some sort have all been discussed and all have merit. But if all were implemented, what would be lost.
This is a voodoo game now. simply cast a few cards to achieve your goals.
Agreed.
My belief is we need to see the full suite of national/diplomacy tools implimented before there can be any genuine long term mutally beneficial agreements between nations. I say long term because in my very brief 8 months in the game there have been siesmic changes in individual leadership and stance of many powerful nations. One does not seek terms with a rotating face.
Some people are like Slinkies, totally useless but great fun to watch when you push them down the stairs
