Nelly just stares at jack before replying rather seriously.

Veera told me to go and work for Emily. The LAST time I went against her went horrible for me. You were there and saw what happened to me. I died, and then she started to torture my soul. So even if I WANTED to go and kill you all and run off, I know now that Veera would find out, and hunt me down again. And I do not want to spend the rest of eternity having my soul ripped apart and put back together. I am not a fool. I learned my lesson. If i really wanted to escape i could just teleport right now. But i know i would be hunted by her if i did.

Brian pays for a night at the inn and just shrugs.

If you insist Jack, she can ride with you. But i do think she is being honest. We all saw what was happening to her, and we all know Veera is serious about putting her back in if she crosses her.

Jack nods

Understandable. However, as unlikely as it is, I insist that's she come with us. Would you all like a tankard of grog?

Brian shakes his head, though Carl gets himself a mug, and Nelly gets some water. Brian just mumbles.

Nah. I don't feel like drinking. A bit conflicted right now. Veera helping really makes me think. She still is a wretched evil woman, but I admit I was wrong about her feelings for her sisters. She does care for them. Who knows, Emily turned out fine after spending a lot of time with Ellen, maybe the same can be done for Veera.

Carl takes a swig before asking.

Well you grew up with her, was she always this bad?

Brian just nods.

Aye, Most of the kids steered clear of her. She was almost always in a foul mood, and she always did have a nasty streak. But she knew how to get things done.

Brian suddenly looks quite upset as he facepalms and curses. He turns to Carl and says in a rather angry voice.

Damn it, I should have asked her why she went and killed those nuns, and why she tried to kill Ellen. That's been bugging me for years and I damn forgot to ask. Oh hell, she probably did it for fun. Still that's gonna bother me not knowing.

Carl pats him on the shoulder, before facepalming as well and cursing.

Ah crap, i should have asked her if she had proof that Greg was responsible for that plague. Damn it. Well hindsight is 20/20 as they say.

The priest gets a mug, jack takes a sip from his. Jack looks to nelly.

Better be careful with the water, it's rather brackish.

The priest scratches his head

I should have asked why she killed those nuns.

Nelly just laughs as she drinks the water

This water tastes much better then the crap Veera used to force down our throats. First year apprentices of hers are forced to drink murky swamp water, and eat moldy food. We sleep in tiny cells on steel beds, its absolutely horrible. Granted she does warn people what they get into studying under her. She does all that to toughen us up. Some poor sods die from it.

Brian looks to Nelly for a minute before speaking.

I don't suppose you know why she killed those nuns.

Nelly looks very uncomfortable before mumbling.

Aye, i do. But Veera holds knowledge as her prized possession. If i go spouting things i know of her, i am rather scared ill end back up in that crystal. Believe me when i say that there is no pain worse then having your soul torn apart.

If you would like to get somethings off your chest, you can confess to me, I'm bound by law to not reveal confessions, even under pain of death or torture. I can also give you a blessing which makes you untouchable by veera, you'll never be under her power again of her again.

Nelly just laughs as she shakes her head.

Veera has eyes everywhere. Especially on people she dislikes or distrusts. Besides, a blessing will only slow her down. She's very powerful, but her power is dwarfed by her intelligence. If she is unable to harm someone, give her time and she will find a way to harm them. Those nuns weren't defenseless. They all had their blessings and holy items, and all were slaughtered.

Nelly points to a nearby church, that looks abandoned.

Those religious men who stormed her lair a while back also had their blessings and holy items. They were slaughtered. And no offence, but any blessing you offer me to keep her back, will at most delay her vengeance.

Nelly thinks for a moment before speaking some more.

But now that i think about it, she probably would have warned me not to speak if she didn't want me to speak about her. So i guess its safe. From what she has told me, she had 3 main reasons as to why she slaughtered the nuns. First of all, she said they owed her a blood debt-what that was she never said. Second, she considered them a threat to her, and wanted them gone. And third, she wanted to do some sort of dark ritual that involved their deaths. What that was I do not know.

The priest shakes his head.

Not this particular blessing. However, I wonder if she'll come after me? I'm about to go purge some ports in a while of some undesirables, some maybe being former students.
